April 24th, 2020 under Andy Cohen, Coronavirus

As we know, Andy Cohen tested positive for Coronavirus. Now that he beat it, he wants to give back. A lot of people, in his same boat, have opted to donate their plasma to help strangers. The Watch What Happens Live host wanted to do the same, but he says he was told he cannot.

The FDA does not allow men who slept with other men to donate blood. Even though they have relaxed the rules, you still have to be celibate for 3 months in order to donate plasma.

He says this is 🐂💩, and he is right. I donate platelets, and I am just at as much risk of getting HIV from a man as he is. However, the only thing that would disqualify me is if I paid for sex.

It is 2020, not 1985, we know so much more about HIV, so why are we living in the past? AIDS doesn’t care if you are gay or straight, so why are we still acting as it does.

We need to get into the present and remove that clause. People need blood and plasma, so why discriminate against a large part of the population?

Hopefully, Andy Cohen’s plea will be heard from the right people, and gay men will be able to donate again, and donate again ASAP.
