March 5th, 2018 under Oscars

Frances McDormand gave the most powerful speech at the Oscars, but that is just one of the reasons why she will never forget the night.

After the awards show, she went to the Governor’s Ball next door to party and had her Oscar engraved. She thought the party was a safe place, so she put her statuette down on the table to enjoy the event. According to USA Today, a man saw the abandoned guy and tried to run away with it.

McDormand was crying uncontrollably outside and security went in to find the thief. That is when NY Times Cara Buckley reports, “Wolfgang Puck’s photographer stopped him, got the Oscar back, and the guy disappeared back into the ball. Apparently Frances has said to let him go. #Oscars #Drama.” She is a better person than I am because I would have told the cops the throw the book at him. I guess she was just so relieved to have her little guy back.

If I were husband, Joel Coen, I would be afraid she would try to replace him with Oscar. She probably spent the night spooning him instead. Who wouldn’t?

UPDATE: KABC is reporting that the man was arrested on suspicion of stealing the Oscar and charged with grand theft. The LAPD is also looking into why he was at the event in the first place. I guess they assumed if he was wearing a tux, he could get in. It worked.
