Yesterday on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon and Will Smith did to TV show theme songs what the NBC host and Justin Timberlake did to rap, they gave us a history of them. From The Golden Girls to Good Times to (of course) Greatest American Hero. They even whistled the theme to The Andy Griffith Show and shook their butts to I Dream of Jeannie. Only to save the best for last, well Smith’s best because nothing will top GAH, the opening song to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Giving us a fun video we can watch over and over again.
I do not know about you, but I miss theme songs. They help to make a show even more memorable. If you hear, “Sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,” then you will be transported to Gilligan’s Island. Or that electric strum will make you want to jump in that fountain with some Friends. And so on. Why don’t shows do them like they used to anymore?
