iZombie becomes a RomCom tonight with an ’80s makeover montage!
March 12th, 2018 under iZombie. [ Comments: none ]

I thought to myself last week, how could Rose McIver top herself on iZombie after downing that brain that gave her the personality of an old rich bitch. Turns out tonight at 9p on The CW, she does it again.

Liv (McIver) eats the brain of a hopeless romantic, who tried to get into Seattle to meet her one true love that she met in a Bridget Jones’ chat room. She never made it to him because she was murdered just as she got to the city. Now it is up to Liv, Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) and Ravi (Rahul Kohli) to find this women’s killer. That is if they don’t kill Liv first since this personality is really getting to them.

First, she falls for the man, who that dead woman was trying to meet. How long will that last? Especially since she is in love with being in love. So nauseating. To top it all off Liv, Ravi and Peyton (Aly Michalka) all go to human/zombie night at a club to look for clues and someone needs a makeover. Can you guess who? You don’t want to miss this scene! Hubba, hubba!

Oh and if Liv being in love with love is not enough, she is making it her mission to make sure other people are in love too. She is going to fix her friends up whether they want it or not. And they don’t.

And then there is Major (Robert Buckley), who is dealing with the fall out of his cadet scratching a human. It could be the downfall of the zombies if it gets out there. Unless Angus (Robert Knepper) gets his way and turns everyone into zombies. The new world order of Seattle is so crazy. Can’t they all just get along?

Oh back to the case, it ends in a way that will not conclude until next week. That means we get another week of Luv, I mean, Liv in love with love. Which I am OK with because I am in love with Liv being in love with love. It is her best brain since last week which I thought was the best brain of the show’s run so far.

Here’s a little spoiler, next week Major eats a brain that his best since he ate the grey matter of a teenage girl. That was like totally awesome, right? Just like iZombie, so watch it!!!

Watch Rose McIver transform into iZombie
August 29th, 2017 under iZombie. [ Comments: none ]

Rose McIver plays a living dead person on iZombie and that means her skin has to appear very pale because there is no blood pumping throughout her body. Since an actual living person cannot obtain that skin color naturally, the makeup department has to give her flesh that hue. It sounds like it would be simple and take no time at all, but in the land of Hollywood it is harder than you would think.

Watch McIver get transformed into Liv’s look. It is quite incredible the process she has to go through every day on The CW procedural that you should be watching. And here I thought brilliantly transforming into a new character every week was the toughest part of her job.

What I enjoyed most is seeing that only do they have to lighten her skin, they also have to give her makeup on top of it. Which is quite impressive to me.

What do the brains on iZombie taste like?

Each week on iZombie, Liv comes up with a new and interesting ways to eat the brains of the murdered person whose murder she is going to try to solve, but what does the grey, or should I say pinkish, matter taste like? Recently at the The CW TCA Winter Press Rose McIver answered that very question. She said, “The brain is made out of gelatin, like coconut agar gelatin. They are disgusting. They are drowned in corn syrup and whatever kind of makes it look good at the time.”

Then she continued, “They have gone above and beyond to try to make them delicious. And I appreciate it so much, but it’s just not worth it because it’s a spit back anyway. I’m not actually going to actually be swallowing any unnecessary brains.” Was there ever one she couldn’t stomach? While a milkshake might sound yummy to you and me, the actress said the one she had to drink during the first season was the grossest one of them all. Saying it is was “almost unmanageable” and after that she was done.

Even though they look good on TV, they taste yucky in real life. McIver has a good attitude about eating the prop, when she told us, “I get to play a Zombie and get through this great show. It’s like what a self indulgent problem.” They say actors suffer for their work, and thankfully she is taking her suffering in stride. I mean, if she didn’t reveal that they awful, I never would have known by watching her do it every week.

On that note, make sure to tune in to iZombie tonight at 9p on The CW to see what concoction she comes up with for her life, would you call life for a Zombie, saving meal?

Rose McIver teases the brains she eats on iZombie and the one she wouldn’t
April 4th, 2017 under iZombie. [ Comments: none ]

iZombie is finally back on The CW tonight at 9p and they are going to have a lot of fun this season.

One of the things that make this Zombie Cop Procedural so much fun is all the personalities that Liv becomes when she eats a brain. Throughout the first season, she has eaten a whole lot of interesting brains like a racist old man, an actor, a Frat brother, a rich bitch and this season she has over 30 brains to choose from.

Recently at The CW TCA Winter Press Day, Rose McIver, who plays Liv, revealed how she finds out what characters they are going to give her each week. She said, “I’m genuinely terrified knowing what brains I might not have a clue how to perform.” Then she continued, “And I remember, this season, I went into the writers’ room before we started, and they said, ‘Okay. We’ve got a list of, like, 35 brains. You are allowed to veto one.’ And they were, like, just everything that you could imagine and terrifying, like, all sorts of adventurous, scary things.”

What is the brain she vetoed? She refused to be the crazy cat lady. Why? She explained, “I’m a dog person. I’ll say that. And they found out that it would be a great prank to play on me to pretend that there was this brain that I would have to eat where I was interacting with, like, seven cats, in a bedroom. Anyway, that was the one that I was, like, ‘Absolutely not. Let’s get rid of that.'” Pussy!

Therefore, we will not be seeing that one, but what will be seeing? She told me, “I do a conspiracy theorist brain. That was a lot of fun, sticking gum on the cameras on computers and suspicious of everybody. I do the Dominatrix, which is a lot of fun. The hot mess brain is kind of like a train wreck, a train wreck style but with a little less liaison.” She also says she will be, “The gossip….I do a gossip which is very compromising and it’s all sorts of people in all sorts of situations.”

There is one pair of brains, Liv gets to share with her former lover, Major (Robert Buckley). She revealed, “We’ve got the father/daughter brain was a lot of fun, so she’s like kind of a Tim from Home Improvement.” What about Buckley? He says he eats, “the brains of the 14 year daughter.” How did he react to that, “So they had told me in the off season, ‘We have a great episode for you. It’s perfect for you.’ So, as an actor, that’s ‘What is it? Is it going to be, like, a cage fighter? A Lothario?’ They are, like, “No, no. It’s, for you, a 14-year-old, bitchy, teenage girl.’” I can see him nailing that brain perfectly. He also disclosed that he would be eating more brains this season, so we will see him taking on more characters than just a 14-year-old teenager.

While I am sure Buckley learned a lot to play that part, what did McIver learn to play one of her many alter egos for an episode? She divulged that, “Playing guitar last season in the Country Music brain was a lot of fun.” Then she explained why, “I played a little when I was a kid. My brother’s a really talented guitarist and when I had to pick that up again it was sort of inspiring. I found myself plucking away and finding it a bit of a stress relief. There are all kinds of things that I wouldn’t have necessary explored that I get to with the show.” She also especially felt a connection with the Dungeon & Dragons brain she downs this season because it gave her a whole new insight into them. She was surprised to find out how much fun she had playing that one.

We learn something new about her acting range each week, and how the Emmy voters ignore her is beyond me. She is one of the greatest character actresses on television these days. It is like she is doing Orphan Black every week and doing it just as well as Tatiana Maslany if not better because she is always changing it up.

If you have been missing out on iZombie for the last two seasons, then binge watch it on Netflix to catch up on the show. Once you do, then watch all the new episodes on The CW. It is the best show you are not watching.
