Yesterday was a bad day to be a British Royal. First, it was announced that Princess Kate underwent a planned abdominal surgery and would be hospitalized for around two weeks. Then, shortly after that, we found out that King Charles III would be undergoing a routine procedure to shrink his enlarged prostate.
Today, when Queen Camilla was at an event, someone asked how her husband was doing. She told them, “He’s fine. Thank you. Looking forward to getting back to work.”
I bet he is looking forward to not spending as much time in the bathroom, even more so than getting back to work.
Apple TV+ gave us something to sing about when they gave Schmigadoon a series order. However, today, The show’s co-creator, Cinco Paul, announced that the fat lady has sung.
I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with season 3 of Schmigadoon! The season is written (including 25 new songs), but we unfortunately won’t be making it. Such is life. I want to thank everyone involved with the show, our incredible cast & crew & writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal, & Apple, for everything they did to make it happen. It’s a miracle we even got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful we did. And to all the fans of the show out there-thank you with all of my heart. Your love and support has meant so much, and the fact that you connected with our show, that it brought you some joy, means the world to me. This was tough news to get, but the optimist in me is convinced it’s not the end of Schmigadoon…and maybe it’s even a happy beginning.
Love, Cinco
Schmigadoon focused on a couple, Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, who found themselves in a hidden town where people sang songs from musicals from the ’40s and ’50s. At first, they couldn’t wait to get out of there. But then, for the second season, they couldn’t wait to get back. However, this time, they found themselves in Schmicago, in the era of Fosse, the ’60s and ’70s.
I was so looking forward to seeing what was next for the couple. Because I am a girl who loves a toe-tapping musical. And that is what they delivered!
Hopefully, someone will see this news and give us a third season. And then we will have something to sing about.
Andrew McCarthy released his autobiography Brat: An ’80s Story in 2021, and that inspired him to interview his old co-stars for a documentary about his time in the Brat Pack with other ’80s A-List stars.
“The Brat Pack has cast a long shadow over my life and career,” said McCarthy. “After all these years, I was curious to see how it had affected my fellow Brat Pack members. What I found was surprising — and liberating.”
The actor took his camera and spoke with St Elmo’s Fire and Class’ Rob Lowe, One Crazy Summer’s Demi Moore, The Breakfast Club’s Ally Sheedy, The Outsiders’ Emilio Estevez, Pretty In Pink’s Jon Cryer, Some Kind of Wonderful’s Lea Thompson, Tap’s Timothy Hutton, and key members of their films, including directors, casting directors, screenwriters, and producers.
Being part of that infamous club affected all of their lives in different ways, and he will find out how being part of that exclusive club in the ’80s changed their lives and how it did.
McCarthy also interviewed David Blum, the man who coined the phrase the Brat Pack for a 1985 New York Magazine cover story. By doing so, we will find out what inspired him to write those two words that defined a group of up-and-coming actors.
The ABC News Studios special will stream later this year on Hulu. And it is a must-watch for fans of those coming-of-age movies, which also includes Less Than Zaro, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller, Oxford Blues, and Better Off Dead.
