Waco is an intense miniseries that will blow you away
January 24th, 2018 under Paramount+. [ Comments: 2 ]

Between August 1992 and April 1993, the FBI and the ATF were involved in two standoffs that did not go well. The first was Ruby Ridge and we watched it all unfold on live television. The law enforcement agencies were heavily criticized about how they handled it, so you would think they would be careful if they ever got themselves involved in another standoff. The second time they screwed up even more, and this one went done Texas. Tonight at 10p, Paramount Network tells both sides of the story of what really went down in Waco.

In the first episode, they give us the background of David Koresh (Taylor Kitsch), the religious leader of the Branch Davidian, and his followers which includes his many wives and children. You see how they interacted together as a family, who believed very strongly in their faith and their leader. They were not harming anyone.

Also in that episode, we get to know Gary Noesner (Michael Shannon), an FBI hostage negotiator. He will eventually be brought in to deal with Koresh, but tonight he is focused on Ruby Ridge.

Next week, the episode takes place 6 months afterwards. The ATF is looking into Koresh because they hear that several weapons have been sent to the compound. They want to know why. There is also interest about why Koresh has multiple wives and how young they were when they married him. They send in Agent Robert Rodriquez (John Leguizamo) as a spy to learn more about them. Even though he went in undercover, he has grown attached to them.

The ATF has decided that they are ready to go in on February 28th, and they send in the troops to serve a search warrant. When a TV news cameraman unknowingly asks one of the member of the Branch Davidian for directions to the compound, the member warns Koresh they are coming. Koresh tells Rodriguez to call it off because he knows who is, but it is too late.

And that brings us the third episode with a shootout that leaves 4 agents and 5 members dead. As both sides try to recuperate after the gun battle, Noesner is brought in to negotiate with Koresh.

Then for the next 3 episodes, he will try to get them out peacefully. But as we know on April 19, 1993, it all comes to a fiery and deadly end.

For a month and a half, we watched as both sides waited the other one out on live television, but we did not know the whole story. Starting tonight, we will hear what really happened from someone who has inside knowledge. The 6-part series is based on a book by David Thibodeau, who is only one of the 9 survivors from that day.

For over 2 decades there have been a lot of questions of what really happened during the standoff. Who is at fault? The bureaus blame the Branch Davidians for it, but a lot of people are skeptical of that. This series makes you rethink what you know about Waco and it is a good thing. Because we need to make sure this never happens again.

Not only is Waco great because of the story and who told it. It is also great because of the cast. Kitsch has really grown as actor since Friday Night Lights and gives one helluva a performance. If you didn’t know it was him playing the title role, you never would have guessed it. Same goes for Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist and Camryn Manheim.

I recently watched an old telemovie about Waco and it nowhere as good as this limited series. This Paramount TV’s first scripted program and they are starting it off with a bang. No pun intended.

BWTF ads: Lara Jill Miller for Gimbles
January 24th, 2018 under Before They Were Famous, Lara Jill Miller. [ Comments: none ]

Before Lara Jill Miller was living in the Loud House, her house was loud thanks to the stereo system her father got at Gimbles. How awwwdorable was the 14-year-old in that 1981 commercial? Her face hasn’t aged a day since then.

FYI, CBS is reviving Murphy Brown
January 24th, 2018 under Candice Bergen, CBS. [ Comments: 1 ]

Remember when NBC announced that they were reviving Coach and you were like who asked for that? Well, today CBS announced that they are bringing back Murphy Brown next season for 13 episodes. I liked the news sitcom, but who asked for it? I guess CBS is going for the older demographic like AARP and above.

I mean, I am glad to have Candice Bergen back on TV, but wow. Just absorbing their decision to bring the show back after 20 years. It just feels dated since so much has changed since it went off the air in ’98. So what is the premise for the revival? CBS says, “Murphy Brown returns to a world of cable news, social media, fake news and a very different political and cultural climate.”

Back when the show aired, it was controversial because Bergen’s real life pregnancy was written into the show and her character was not married. Then Vice President Dan Quayle took issue with that storyline and the sitcom took issue with him. Which makes you wonder how political it will be this time around. Something I am not looking forward to and it is a big reason why I am not loving the Roseanne revival. I want to escape politics with scripted TV and not be reminded of it when I am trying to get away from it.

When it comes to the rest of the cast, we do not know who, if any of them will return. When I say this show is going for AARP demo, I ain’t kidding. Faith Ford is the youngest cast member and she is 53. Grant Shaud is 56, Joe Regalbuto is 68, Bergen is 71 and Charles Kimbrough is 10 years older than her. Sadly, Robert Pastorelli passed away in 2004, so he will not be part of it. Also, it will be hard to bring Scott Bakula back because he is starring in NCIS: NoLa on the network. But then there is their kid. No word how old he will be. If Roseanne can change up the kids’ ages on her show, then Bergen can do the same with hers.

What do you think Murphy Brown coming back? Which show do you wish they brought back instead? When it comes to which CBS show I wish they would have revived first, I have been rooting for Still Standing. So I think that is why this news bums me out.

Fox is the only network of the Big 4 not to bring back show. What they are waiting for? I guess Modern Family to end already, so they can get Ed O’Neill back. And if Murphy Brown costs me Superior Donuts and gives Fox Katey Sagal, then I am going to boycott it.

One last note, isn’t Great News just like a modern day version of Murphy Brown? And look at how that show is doing in the ratings? I like it, but not too many other people do.

I lied, finally if you have never seen Murphy Brown, then you can watch it on Antenna TV weeknights at 10p.

Is there anything cuter than hamsters eating?
January 24th, 2018 under Animals. [ Comments: none ]

I never realized this before, but hamsters eating might be the cutest thing you see all day. I know this now because The Pet Collective put together a video of them munching down on food and I really want a hamster. Only problem is, I have a cat and she would look like one of those hamster if I got her one. As in she would eat it just like they eat veggies.

Tonight’s The X-Files is one of the best episodes from the series
January 24th, 2018 under X-Files. [ Comments: none ]

https://youtu.be/_tWXadlQetk
There have been plenty of great episodes from The X-Files throughout its run and tonight’s is my second favorite one. The episode starts out with a wild black and white story from the past and it gets wilder from there. So wild, you can tell that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson just had a huge blast filming it. They let go like they never before.

In their first interaction together, Mulder tells Scully that he spent the day Sasquatching. Then he wants to tell her story and she hangs up on him when he starts to tell it.

The two agents have a date that night. When he goes to meet her, he is approached by a stranger who seems to know him really well. He brings up something about Fox’s past that barely anyone would know and the guy tells him it never existed. Mulder doesn’t believe him until he can’t find any proof of it.

He tells Scully about the mysterious stranger, and the next night she runs into him too. He gives her something from her past that she has been looking for for years.

How does this guy know them so well? What is his connection to them? Something you have to see to believe. You know because the truth is out there. And this episode is all about the Mandela Effect and our agents finally learning the truth about everything. All I will say is Trump plays a part in it. How? Again, you have to watch it at 8p on Fox because this is the episode where Duchovny and Anderson had the most fun they have had with the series and it shows.
