New parents Britney Spears, 24, and hubby Kevin Federline, 28, brought home son Sutton Pierce (6 pounds 11 ounces) to serious excitement in their families. When contacted by Us, Federline’s mom, Julie Bleak, told Us Weekly, "We are all so happy!" The September 12 birth by C-section at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles "went really smoothly, says a source. A family insider says that when the singer checked out at midnight on September 14, she wore a beanie, rode in a wheelchair pushed by Federline and "held the baby in her arms." Though there were other occasions to celebrate that weekend (son Sean turned 1 on September 14; their two-year wedding anniversary was on the 18th), another source says they were low-key. "They stayed home," the source says. "A lot of bonding went on. Sean and Sutton get along great!"

Commenting for the first time about his split from Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown tells PEOPLE, "I’m really saddened by the whole situation." Brown spoke to PEOPLE on his cell phone from Boston, where he’d flown in from Los Angeles to celebrate the 17th birthday of his eldest daughter, Laprincia (with ex-girlfriend Kim Ward). He also caught a Mike Epps show with a group of pals at Boston’s Comedy Connection on Sunday night. A source tells PEOPLE that Brown seemed to be in good spirits, mingling with the crowd of 500 and taking a picture with Epps after the show. Houston, 43, filed for legal separation from Brown, 39, on Sept. 8. However, her rep, Nancy Seltzer, told PEOPLE, "We’re saying she filed for divorce because that is her intent." Houston and Brown were married for 14 years and have one daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 13. Divorce proceedings are expected to begin next month. In her filing, Houston reportedly asked that she get custody of Bobbi Kristina and that Brown be allowed visitation rights.

STELLA MCCARTNEY and GWYNETH PALTROW are reportedly trying to matchmake their single parents SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY and BLYTHE DANNER. The man behind three of the greatest films of all time (for moviegoers of at least two generations), George Lucas will be the grand marshall for this year’s Rose Parade, the 118th annual parade. The announcement was made in Pasadena, Tuesday, where Lucas arrived to the soaring strains of Star Wars theme music. at the parade and Rose Bowl headquarters to accept the honor Tuesday. On hand to greet him were Star Wars characters such as a roaring Chewbacca and a diminutive Ewok. ‘’It’s always had a very special place in my heart and now it’s an amazing thought that I’m going to be riding that funny old car at the very end of the parade,’’ the 62-year-old director said. The theme for the parade is ‘’Our Good Nature.’’
