Jake wants to play Lance Armstrong?
July 22nd, 2006 under Movies, Sports figures. [ Comments: none ]

Yes it’s true — I’m told Jake Gyllenhaal and Lance Armstrong are hanging at the Tour De France together because the actor is the leading contender to play the cyclist in a Sony bio pic being quietly developed. Gyllenhaal and Armstrong have become pals during Jake’s method process to get to know the sports legend. The actor of Brokeback Mountain and Jarhead fame is even a long-time cyclist and has begun training for the film. As a huge TdF fan myself, I think a Lance bio-pic is a natural: why did it take Hollywood so long to put one together? Given Armstrong’s unhappy youth, his sports prowess (first as a triathlete and then as a cyclist), his cancer battle, his Live Strong yellow wristband campaign and his cancer foundation work, his epic seven TdF titles, his rivalry with cocky Jan Ullrich and upstart Ivan Basso, his love-hate relationship with the French, and his battle against doping accusations, it’s a heckuva tale. And the studio as well as Lance are fortunate that an Oscar nominee like Gyllenhaal wants to do it. There’s even a slight resemblance between the two men, as seen in these close-ups.

Am I the only person who think Lance comes off as a jerk?

George Michael’s careless encounter
July 22nd, 2006 under George Michael. [ Comments: none ]

News of the World investigators caught the singer red-handed and red-faced as he emerged from the bushes after cavorting with a pot-bellied, 58-year-old, jobless van driver.  When challenged George, 43, was wild-eyed and trembling. Trying to hide his face under a baseball cap, he screamed:  "I don’t believe it! F*** off! If you put those pictures in the paper I’ll sue!" Minutes earlier the one-time heart-throb had been lurking in the shadows at the notorious homosexual pick-up spot on Hampstead Heath.

George is a man with the world at his feet. He’s on the brink of a lucrative 50-concert comeback tour, which sold out in half an hour.  Yet he ignored all the risks and dangers to pull seedy Norman Kirtland.  The pair kissed and groped each other before going even further. It was all in a public place and totally illegal — just like the day in 1998 when George flashed at an undercover cop in a California park toilet. After the shock of being confronted by us, George stumbled to his flash Mercedes coupe, retrieved his keys from their hiding place on top of the rear wheel and roared off into the night — back to his world of showbiz, celebs and glitz.

George’s night of shame began just after midnight on Tuesday when he took a short drive from his Highgate house to the Hampstead home of long-term lover Kenny Goss. Five minutes later he drove to the nearby heath and spent two hours prowling around before hooking up with Kirtland. When confronted by our team, a shaken George desperately tried to justify his sordid secret quest for cheap, risky thrills, which friends fear is spiralling out of control and threatening his destruction.

In a sweat, the ashen-faced singer declared: "Are you gay? No? Then f*** off! This is my culture!" Then he claimed: "I’m not doing anything illegal. The police don’t even come up here any more. "I’m a free man, I can do whatever I want. I’m not harming anyone." "He’s just asking for serious trouble. One day he’ll be attacked in one of these dodgy late-night encounters. "It’s so sad to see a talented guy wasting himself like this."

Death doesn’t stop Anna Nicole Smith’s legal battle
July 22nd, 2006 under Anna Nicole Smith. [ Comments: none ]

A month after the death of E. Pierce Marshall, who feuded for years with Anna Nicole Smith over his father’s oil fortune, his family says they are more committed than ever in their legal battle against the former Playboy playmate."Nothing has changed from the family’s standpoint as to how this case should end up and we will handle it as Pierce did, in his honor," the family told The Dallas Morning News in a written statement.Marshall, the son of tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, died June 20 at age 67. His family said his death was caused by a brief and extremely aggressive infection.

Family friend and Houston attorney Rusty Hardin said the federal court soon will be notified that Elaine Marshall, E. Pierce Marshall’s widow, is now the estate representative.Kent L. Richland, one of Smith’s attorneys, thought the change might lead to a settlement."Certainly, there is a fact that there will be a change in personalities involved," he said. "That opens up the possibility there will be a different attitude. Assets change hands. That is often a time when people want to access what is in their best interest."

Ex-Supernova’s Jenny Galt’s telling interview
July 22nd, 2006 under Rock Star: Supernova. [ Comments: none ]

The Rock Star contestants are giving a big thumbs down to Supernova’s debut single. At least that’s the word from ousted Vancouver singer Jenny Galt. "A lot of people in the group are skeptical about what kind of music they are playing. (Supernova) say they want to do something fresh and new, but then the first track we got to hear, a lot of people were just like, ‘Eww, I’m not sure if I like this,’ " says the 29-year-old Montreal-born pop-rocker. "It sounded just like that same old, boys’ rock ‘n’ roll kind of glam thing they said they weren’t going to be doing. It was a bit surprising."

Galt, who was eliminated from the reality series this week, says the finalists are also questioning Supernova’s commitment to itself. Many feel its members – Tommy Lee (Motley Crue drummer), Jason Newsted (former Metallica bassist) and Gilby Clarke (Gun N’ Roses guitarist) – are not exactly hell-bent on making the band a success. "Because Tommy Lee’s got Motley Crue and Jason Newsted’s very passionate about (Canadian metal band) Voivod, there are a lot of questions as to whether this band is going to really take off. That’s up in the air," she says. "And then, how much commitment do the actual members of Supernova have? There was a lot of chit-chat in the (Rock Star) mansion about that."

While only time will tell if the finalists’ concerns are justified, only one of them – the person who is named the band’s singer during the show’s finale in September – will truly be affected. And that person, Galt says, will likely be Toronto’s Lukas Rossi, Australia’s Toby Rand or South Africa’s Dilana Robichaux. "When I first got there, I really had the attitude that I wanted to win. But then, as it went along, and Lukas, Dilana and Toby kind of emerged, it was a little hard for everyone else," she says, adding she hopes Rossi takes it, but not because he’s Canadian. "I think he’s most suited for that particular band. He’s got that arrogant rock ‘n’ roll personality about him and his style suits them."

While Galt was prepared to change her own style to fit into what Supernova wanted, she now admits she wasn’t the best choice. "I am a rocker chick to an extent, but there is a whole softer side to me. I have always loved playing a piano ballad to a room of silent listeners and, above all, I’m a song- writer. I want to release an album of great songs."

I believe everything she saying. I think there will only be one mandatory concert after the show and that is it.
