Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson are back as private eye partners after a five-year break, and this time they are on a different coast in Private Eyes: West Coast.
When Private Eyes ended, P.I. Angie Everett (Sampson) and former hockey player-turned-P.I. Matt Shade (Priestley) finally acted on their feelings of will they or won’t they get together? They did.
Tonight at 8p on The CW, they are married, parents to a baby boy, retired, and living in Vancouver. Shade has written a book about his hockey career, and Angie is busy being a full-time mom. However, they both miss being private investigators.
Then, on one fateful night, they are at the scene of the murder, and one of Angie’s friends is arrested for the crime. Angie vows to prove her friend’s innocence. And with that, they are back on the job.
It is like no time has passed for them. And I feel the same way. The sequel is just as enjoyable as the series’ first run.
Sadly, no one else from the original series is part of this one. However, I am enjoying the new cast members. Angie has a half-brother she didn’t know about, and Will (David Kaye) is going to be a big help to the couple with all of the connections he has. Raine (Khamisa Wilsher) is their assistant, and her computer skills come in handy. Detective Xiao (Olivia Cheng) is a no-nonsense cop who, at first, rejects them. But then she realizes they can be an asset to her.
Priestley and Sampson have such wonderful chemistry on screen, and now that they get to act on it. That is an extra bonus for West Coast. And don’t worry, they are not all lovey-dovey. They are still the same Shade and Angie we know from the 2016 series.
Whether you watched Private Eyes or not, you are going to enjoy Private Eyes: West Coast. Canadians do a better job with police procedurals than we do.
