If you are like me and absolutely love the way that Meat Loaf sings Jim Steinman’s beautiful intense words, then you will be excited to know that they are working like Bats out of Hell on a new album. Larry King asked Marvin Aday on his OraTV show if there was a rocky relationship between him and the brilliant lyricist and the singer denied it. In fact he let it slip that they are making sweet music together again.
I guess you can say that one of my Rock´N´Roll Dreams Come Through because I have been waiting for this collaboration to happen again for so long. So they better be going nowhere fast to release this future classic album.
Here’s a little secret about me, I would love to have a three-way with Meat and Steinman because their songs are some of my favorites and have gotten me through so much. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted Making Love (Out of Nothing at All) as the first song played at my wedding. I know Air Supply sang it, but Steinman wrote it and is the perfect song for a bride and groom. Right?
Miley Cyrus released the second music video from her upcoming album Bangerz that’s out on October 8th, and Wrecking Ball lives up to its name. The 20 year old made out with a sledgehammer and sat completely naked on a rusted wrecking ball. Instead of concentrating on the music video, all I could think of is what she going to get by exposing her body to all of that dirty metal. Seriously I hope they sanitized everything before she put her vajayjay and her tongue on those things. So gross.
Now when it comes to the music video itself that was directed by still photographer Terry Richardson, I think he needs to stick with his day job. He’s not as good with motion photography.
When it comes to the song, dare I say that I actually liked it? It just needed a stronger video to go with it like Meat Loaf’s Modern Girl.
What do you think of Wrecking Ball?
Lorraine Crosby will do anything to get her story out there, but Meat Loaf won’t let her do that the way she did without responding to what she said.
Crosby was a contestant on The Voice this Saturday and she told the show that she was the female voice on Meat Loaf’s #1 song I’ll Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That), but she didn’t get recognition for it. Well Meat went on to Facebook yesterday and explained his side of the story. By doing so we learned about the music industry and to always use your real name if you are ever given such a huge opportunity.
I am going to explain . The VOICE is a reality show they are going to edit for the dramatic. Lorraine herself was complaining that they edited her. Was she paid for singing the song, I believe so but that was 20 years ago. How things work . Musicians come in Play tracks they are paid a Union scale some get double some Triple but never royalties. Lorraine at the Time was being managed by JIm , don’t blame him, She was recording a record , she hoped that “Anything for Love” would make that record work for her. It didn’t , She wanted her credit as Mrs Loud . I tried my best to talk her out of it and use her real name. She wanted Mrs Loud. so be it. Singers go on other people’s record for no money to help promote them themselves sometimes it works other times it dosen’t . In interviews in 1993 I gave her all the credit for sining the song . The Director of the Video the now very famous Michael Bay thought she was not the right choice for the Video. Just like every A list actor is not right for every film. She did not get screwed and in 1994 she came on stage with us and Sang “Anything For love” in Newcastle. She deserves a lot of credit., But as she herself told me in 1994 , I tell people that is me but they don’t believe me . Why? because she used Mrs. Loud and not her real name. Jim and I did not screw her over in any way , she took the chance it just did not work. Lorraine and I are still friends and the Voice can go screw itself for editing out what she really said . I hope that all you who felt the need to call me names have learned something about the music business. If you really want to attack , go get the royalties that are owed to Myself and Jim for selling 45 million copies of Bat, and after that go after the royalties of all the other artist who have been screwed by Record companies. They are in the 1,000’s . People do things to forward their carrer , it doesn’t always work. If you need to believe what the voice edited to create some drama , then I see dumb people.
UPDATE: Lorraine Crosby aka Mrs Loud took Facebook and explained her side of the story about what happened with the song and with The Voice. And we all learn an important lesson about the music industry.
In the interests of clarifying matters.
A. The voice is a reality show and they will heavily edit it for effect. In my experience True!
B. Was I paid for singing the song? No, it was sung impromptu as a demo for Meat to sing his vocals to .I believe Meat has no knowledge of this and would have expected the managements to deal with paper work etc . I was however paid for backing vocals on Three other songs on the album.
I have never mentioned any of this to Meat as I never thought it was his responsibility and has always treated me like a princess.
C. Session musicians receive a fee and mostly that’s the end of that. I do however receive the usual PPL payments for my performance on the record.
D. Meat did try to talk me out of being credited as Mrs Loud but Jim Steinman and I were trying to sell Mrs Loud ,but with hindsight Meat was right.
E. Meat has ALWAYS spoken highly of me and given me full credit for my involvement on Bat 2 and that has always been appreciated by me.
F. I understand that when Films or Videos are made they are cast by a director/producer and my look as a blonde was not what they were looking for at the time. I can live with that but the first I knew that my voice was lip synced to by Dana Patrick was when Jim Steinman told me to watch the video on VH1 and when my voice came out of her Face, I was absolutely devastated to say the least ! And no one asked me if it was ok for that to happen.
G. Meat and I are still friends and I am disgusted that any one would call this very kind wonderful man names for any reason.
H. I went on the Voice to try to improve my work situation as I am a full time musician and these day its best to have some sort of TV exposure to secure work , I have entered two reality shows and both were heavily edited but that’s just the chance you have to take.
I. The general public will probably never know what goes on behind the scenes in the editing rooms of these competitions.
Finally, I give my utmost respect and love to Meat will always thank him for the huge opportunity he put my way.
UPDATE 2: Bonnie Tyler, who biggest hits were written by Jim Steinman the man that managed Lorraine and wrote for Meat Loaf also, also commented on the matter.
Bonnie’s long-time friend Lorraine Crosby was on BBC’s The Voice last weekend and she was disappointed to hear the judges didn’t turn round for her.
Bonnie says “I spoke to her after the show and she said she had a few technical issues and couldn’t really hear herself and felt she was out of tune. I said ‘You?! Out of tune? Impossible!’ I’m telling you now- that girl is amazing. I have never heard her sing anything other than perfectly in tune.”
In fact, everyone will know Lorraine’s voice as she sings on the infamous Meat Loaf track “I Would Do Anything For Love” but no one knows it’s her as they used a model miming the track in the actual video. In fact, bizarrely it was the model who was offered record contracts when the song came out.
As Bonnie says “Lorraine did an amazing job on that song. She is incredible and deserves much more recognition for her talent.”
When asked about The Voice coaches, it’ll perhaps come as a surprise to learn that Bonnie wouldn’t necessarily choose fellow Welshman Tom. “Tom’s amazing. I worked with him years back when i opened for him at the Greek Theatre in L.A. back in the ’70′s – and of course he’s Welsh! But I’m also a big fan of Jessie J she’s a great vocalist.”
Meat Loaf went under the knife today for knee surgery and he won’t be running like a Bat Out of Hell for a few weeks. His people posted this message and the picture on Facebook:
Thank you everyone for the thoughts, prayers and love you’ve been sending for Meats surgery today. Here’s the final pic before we sent him under the knife! He’ll be checking out for 2 weeks whilst he starts the recovery process but we’ll endeavor to step into his facebook shoes and keep you updated on his progress and all other happenings.
We know he loves and appreciates his fans and is incredibly thankful to have such an overwhelming amount of support and good will for his recovery!
Thank you everyone!!!
Hopefully he will be back to his old self before we know it. Because I will tell you, he puts on one of hell a show and I don’t want anything to come between him and him doing that.
WEWS, a Fox affil in Cleveland, thought their Rock and Roll Dreams came Through and ran like a Bat Out of Hell with the exclusive that Meat Loaf was at a Kent, Oh bar that they ran with the story according to Newsvine. Only problem is the guy that claimed to Marvin Lee Aday was not the Paradise in the Dashboard Light singer. Meat took to Facebook to basically say that Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer than They Are.
To everyone in Kent, OH
Some of you have very kindly sent me thank you’s for being at the bar this weekend and for having my picture taken with you. Fox news online even ran a story on my surprise appearance!
I’ve seen the pictures and you
all look great!
However, you were all had……whoever is with you all WAS NOT ME!!!
I’m still on set shooting Stage Fright and we’re nowhere near there!
Here’s a shot of my view right now, Ohio it is not!
Sorry guys!!! I hate to see my fans fooled like this but I thank you all for the love the ensued anyway!
I have to admit the guy is pretty good dead ringer, but Modern Girl and a true fan of Meat Loaf like me would’ve known at first glance it is wasn’t him. Guess he won’t be giving them an interview when he is town next month for show?
Thirty years ago when Jim Steinman wrote Total Eclipse of the Heart, I bet he never thought that people could be diagnosed with it but they are. Drug Puppy made a video showing us what the symptoms are and how the diagnosis is made. So if you get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by and are a little bit terrified, then see the look in your eyes and go to the doctor to get tested ASAP.
I have to wonder if the light in your life goes out from Total Eclipse of the Heart, does Bonnie Tyler sing at your funeral?
Meat Loaf is on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today and he talked about his four-letter rant towards Gary Busey on The Celebrity Apprentice. He said up until his appearance on Ellen he had not seen that infamous blow up, because he just couldn’t watch one of the most embarrassing moments of his life. He admitted to her that he acted like a moron and takes full responsibility for his actions.
You can tell in this interview he is truly apologetic for his actions, but I am not sure it is enough for me. I have been a fan of his since I was wee one, and I will admit seeing him lose his temper like that kind of made me lose respect for him. In fact every time I hear it, my back cringes. I am happy to hear he knows he f*cked up by yelling at anyone like that, but it is still going to take me a little longer to listen to his music the same way.
BTW if you have somehow missed that freak out, here it is:
Tonight on Hallmark they are premiere the inspirational well-acted movie Citizen Jane. It is the story of a woman whose fiance’, unknowingly to her, killed her beloved aunt. In one day she lost the man she loved and the woman she loved like a mother and she makes it her personal mission to put the man away who took her away from her.
Ally Sheedy is so believable as the woman who solves her aunt’s murder with the help of a cop who never gave up and by reading the mystery novels her aunt loved so much. Meat Loaf is so good as cop, that part of me thinks that he might’ve made a wrong career choice but then if he had we never would have heard his powerful voice and that would be beyond awful. Sean Partick Flanery looks all nice on the outside in the movie, but you can see him as the evil killer that he plays in it.
The movie is so well done, that you never lose interest it and when the movie ends you can see that this can be made in to a series of movies for the network and you will really want to see more of them. In real life Jane Alexander went on to help other families solve the murders of their loved one. Sadly she died two days before production started and you know she will be watching this movie with her aunt in heaven enjoying it as much as I did and you will. So make sure to make sure to watch it tonight on Hallmark at 9p!
A1 Steak Sauce wants you to Sing For Your Beef! Just like Meat Loaf, they want you to upload a video on YouTube by August 23rd serenading them with your love of their sauce. How much would they love you to do that? The grand prize is a year of steaks and we all know how well (done) A1 and steak go! If you upload a video let me know!
BTW I understand they prob used Meat Loaf for his name you know because it has Meat in it, but I always thought he was a vegetarian? Just saying.
Bonnie Tyler’s song and music video for Total Eclipse of the Heart was destroyed for me today when Dlisted posted this video of someone who changed the words of the song to be the literal version of what was going on in the video. While it will take me ages to once again listen to Jim Steinman’s song the same way, I have to admit I freaking loved what they did to the video. Seriously how brilliant is that?
I don’t how people have the time to come up with stuff like that, but I am so thankful they do!!!
BTW here is the original version of Total Eclipse of the Heart, which do you like better?
