The Wicked Barbie dolls are flying off the shelves, but not because everyone wants to own the Glinda and Elphaba Barbies.
There is a wicked reason why. That reason is because there was a typo on the boxes.
There is a link to the website Wicked.com. There are only two problems. The film’s site is WickedMovie.com, and without the word movie in the address, it goes to a porn site and that is not kid friendly. Big whoops!
So now people who bought the dolls are selling them on eBay for hundreds over retail price.
When word got back to Mattel, they released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” read a statement. “We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is inappropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”
I just hope they can get the new one with the corrected website out before Christmas because, if not, there will be a lot of upset little girls and boys who want to sing along with the dolls.
Isn’t it foretelling that Ariana Grande’s mini-me sings Popular?
