Let’s be real, we all have a story about meeting a celebrity or being in the same place as one or maybe even knowing someone who knows someone famous. Well, Weird Al Yankovic not only recorded a song about it on Mandatory Fun that’s out now, but he also made video for the tune as well. How many of those examples can you relate to from that song?
So you want to know my Lame Claim to Fame? One time, I was in the green room at The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Weird Al Yankovic was there too. He was a guest on the show, and I was there to take my really good friend, who is a HUGE fan, to see him on the late night talk show. I ran late, so we were stuck in the green room. Did we talk to him? Sadly, no because you can’t do that during a lame claim to fame. Maybe next time, for my friend’s sake.
And my other Weird Al lame claim to fame story, is Seth Green stood behind me on the line to get food during Yankovic’s concert at The Greek. I was totally oblivious to it, until my friend (the HUGE fan) told me about it after the fact.
Now when it comes Mandatory Fun as an entire album, it truly is mandatory fun! My favorite song off of the CD is Now That’s What I Call Polka which is a megamix of him singing hits like Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball, Psy’s Gangnam Style, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe, Daft Punk’s Lucky and LMFAo’s I’m Sexy and I Know It, Polka style. I’ve been waiting all week for the video and it just didn’t happened. He also didn’t release a music video for his version of Imagine Dragon’s Radioactive called Inactive. Oh well, at least we got to see Tacky (Pharrell’s Happy), Foil (Lorde’s Royal), Handy (Iggy Azalea’s Fancy), The Sports Song, First World Problems (which is a total classic), Mission Statement and Lame Claim to Fame. If you notice, I didn’t include Word Crimes (Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines) on that list. That’s because I was really insulted by that song. I knows I have those grammar issues, I just don’t have to hear about it in a song. But other than that, you like totally want to add Mandatory Fun to your collection because it is so much fun to listen to when you’re out and about looking for a lame claim to fame.
