Let’s be honest. Sherlock Holmes is the star, and Dr. John Watson is his sidekick. However, CBS made Watson (Morris Chestnut) the leading man of his own series last season.
He was standing on his own for most of the season because he thought that he was the only one who survived a showdown between Professor James Moriarty, and Sherlock and himself.
But he was not. Moriarty (Randall Park) also survived and was out to kill Watson. But it was Watson who got the last laugh when he supposedly killed his enemy.
That was last season. This season, Watson is going to find out that Sherlock is also alive, and he will be played by Robert Carlyle for a few episodes.
“We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of ‘Watson’ in Season 2,” said series showrunner Craig Sweeny. “The man has played iconic roles in projects like ‘Trainspotting,’ ‘The Full Monty,’ and ’28 Weeks Later’… and now he steps into the shoes of the most iconic detective of all, Sherlock Holmes. When Watson’s best friend and former partner makes a shocking reappearance in his life, Watson is forced to confront their shared past—and a secret that may lie buried within Watson’s own body.”
The actor confirmed the news by saying, “My dear Watson…a new challenge awaits me.”
It is unclear when he will be making his first appearance on the medical mystery procedural. However, we do know that it returns with all-new episodes on October 13th.
BTW Am I the only one who wants Watson to say, “No shit, Sherlock,” when he sees his friend for the first time after presuming he was dead?
