NBC is getting back into the live musical business this holiday season by doing a production of Annie.

“There are few musicals like ‘Annie’ where you know the words to every song and the overriding message — especially in the trying times we live in — is optimism,” Executive Producer Neil Meron said. “The song ‘Tomorrow’ means more than ever now, and it’s not lost on us that even Franklin Roosevelt and his New Deal are impacted by this little orphan who simply believes in the goodness of everyone!”

Casting is underway, but I have some suggestions. I think they should get Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Annie as a kid, to play Miss Hannigan. Adam Levine as her brother Rooster. Jane Levy could play Annie. She played her as a kid, she’s a redhead, and she is still the same size. Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen can play Daddy Warbucks and his right-hand woman Grace. Who do you want to see in those roles?

And are you as excited as I am to see their take on Annie? Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, I have loved this musical since I was even younger than Annie is supposed to be.
