Tonight at 9p it is time for
The Goldbergs season, and I don’t want wait a few months until we get a new episode because the sitcom has proven just how special it is.
Tonight’s season finale is Murray-centric (Jeff Garlin) and we learn more about the patriarch of the family. Turns out there is more to the dad than just sitting in the chair in his underwear watching TV. Back in high school, he held the record for most free throws in a row and up until now no one has broken it. Since someone did, he is invited back to his old haunt to be honored during the game and a banquet afterwards. He doesn’t want to go, but Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) forces him to go. Something he is happy about when everyone chants his name as he walks into the gym. About time he had this glorious moment on this show!
So while Murray’s being honored, the Goldberg kids are left alone. Barry (Troy Gentile), is not the cool kid like his dad. He realizes he can make a name for himself if he throws the party of the year while his parents away. Sadly, no one shows up until Erica (Hayley Orrantia) makes a phone call and everyone shows up. It’s the party that Barry always wanted, but does anyone knows he’s the man behind it?
When Bev and Murray come early, it looks the party is over. But is it? Will Barry have that epic moment? All I will say, is The Goldbergs uses Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On a Prayer, the way it was meant to be used. You will be screaming along as soon as it comes on.
So what music what we might hear next year? Over the weekend, I was Tweeting with, the show’s creator,
Adam F Goldberg, and he hinted that the second season renewal means he will finally get to pay tribute to New Kids in the Block. But The Goldbergs isn’t only about music, it also about movies as we saw the show pay its respect to films like The Goonies and Return of the Jedi. What movie is left for him to honor? “Shall we play a game?” Yep, we might get to see War Games since it came out in ’80something.
Now that is all about what might happen next season, but here’s a little tidbit about tonight’s episode. Barry’s party turns into a sweater one. I know it isn’t a thing, but tonight it is! And the real Beverly Goldberg’s sweaters were used in the making of this episode. So keep your eye out for them! And a great episode with a sweet monologue from the little Adam (Sean Giambrone) at the end!
Then at 9:30p we get one final episode of
Trophy Wife and you are going to hate ABC even more for cancelling this show.
It is Mother’s Day and Diane (Marcia Gay Harden) and Jackie (Michaela Watkins) are letting Kate (Malin Ã…kerman) take care of their kids for the day. Making Kate feel special until she realizes that Pete (Bradley Whitford) ex-wives lied to her so that they can have a kids’ free day. Now she is determined to find them. What will happen when she does?
Then there is Pete, who gets the lead of one of the worst cases his firm has ever handled. He has to make a company that caused an oil spill in the ocean look good. But the pressure gets to him and he is hospitalized.
So now all the wives and his cute kids are rushing to be by his side. What will happen when they all get together?
It is not as much about them as it is for us as our hearts break that this touching show will not be back for a second season. But at least we had this one.
