I know a lot of people look at Roseanne as the most politically conscience show on television, but they are wrong. That title belongs to Superior Donuts. Tonight at 9p on CBS, the show takes on ICE.
Randy (Katey Sagal) tells everyone that she is going to have work with ICE agents, but she really does not want to. That is when everyone in the shop starts to debate the topic. Everyone has a different opinion on the matter. No one more than Sofia (Diane Guerrero). Everyone thinks she might be here illegally, so they want to figure out how to protect her. Franco (Jermaine Fowler) comes up with a plan to keep her safe and it involves the donut shop. The only thing is that they cannot tell Arthur (Judd Hirsch) about it. Will they be able to hide them from Arthur and Randy?
What makes Superior Donuts so great is that they take on every side of story and ones you never figured on. Tonight, they show how the liberal, an immigrant, an old guy set in his ways, a cop who has to work with ICE and someone who illegal immigration is close to, all deal with the politically charged topic. By the end of the half hour, you will have a whole new outlook on the issue than you did before. This sitcom is educational while still being hilariously funny. We need more of that on TV!
Then at 10p but over on NBC, it is time for the Good Girls season finale. And what a way to end the season.
Beth (Christina Hendricks) is convinced that Rio (Manny Montana) is going to kill them. Therefore, she comes up with a plan on how to take him out. That is with the help of her sister, Annie (Mae Whitman), and best friend Ruby (Retta).
Turns out the timing is perfect because Ruby needs the money ASAP to pay for her daughter’s transplant. Did you know you need to pay for it upfront? And the surgery comes to almost $90,000. That is after insurance pays for 80% of it.
Anyways, the three women come up with the perfect plan. Just as they are executing it, all the lies that everyone has been hiding start to be revealed. Each one will have a different consequence. All leading to a shocking ending that will cause you to beg NBC to bring back the show for another season.
All I will say is not everyone gets their happy ending. Actually, none of them do. Which is why we need a second season of this show that proves that Good Girls can be bad girls too! About time we saw shows like this on TV. We know that man can be bad, but so can us ladies. As Mae West said, “When I am good, I’m very good. When I’m bad, I am better.”
