Tonight at 8:30p on CBS, Supergirl takes flight and you don’t want to miss this superhero drama.
Twenty four years ago, 12 year old Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) planet was destroyed. Before Krypton blew up, her mother sent her to Earth to protect her baby cousin, Kal-El. Only problem was that her pod got stuck in time and she didn’t reach Earth for two decades. By then, Superman grew up and had already revealed himself. When she finally arrives on Earth, Kal-El finds a family to raise her. Unlike the Kents, the Danvers already have a daughter and Alex (Chyler Leigh) becomes her protective big sister.
It has been 12 years since she landed, and now the 24 year old is working for National City’s newspaper as an assistant to its boss Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). She leads a pretty ordinary life until her sister’s plane runs into trouble and it looks like it is going to crash. Kara can’t let that happen, so she does what she was destined to do and prevents the plane from crashing. Now, that she has got a taste, she can’t stop fighting crime along with the assistance of her co-worker Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan). She will also get some help from the new photographer at the newspaper, Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), but he likes to go buy James now.
Alex never wanted Kara to reveal herself because there are Earthlings and Aliens who want her dead. Even though, she has just been doing this Supergirl thing for a short time, the threats towards her life have already started.
How she will deal with all of that and still keep National City safe? We will just have to tune in every week to find out.
Glee might not have appreciated Melissa Benoist’s talent, but Supergirl does and they are using it. She brings such a sweetness and innocence to the role that you just can’t help but to fall in love with her at first sight. Along with those qualities, there is a toughness to her that makes you believe that she can be both Kara and Supergirl. While she is clearly the star, the casting of everyone else meshes perfectly with her to create a super cast. Including the two actors who play her Earth parents, it’s nice surprise I am sure you will appreciate. Along with everything else about the show from Greg Berlanti (Everwood, Flash and Arrow) and Ali Adler (Chuck, Glee and No Ordinary Family).
