Sean Hayes made his Broadway debut in Promises, Promises. He has an unforgettable story from one performance that has stayed with him for 15 years. He regurgitated that moment to Graham Norton a few days ago.
On Saturday Nights, people like to make going to a Broadway show a fun night out. They eat and drink with their friends and then go watch the performance. And that is not a wise move because you have to focus on the play or musical.
Well, one Saturday night, Hayes heard a woman projectile vomit in the one of the front rows, Then, he and castmates, who went on with the show, were all like did that happen? It did, and they were happy when the usher, came and took her away.
Like I said, the show went on, and the actors thought they were safe… But then, twenty minutes later, she came back for an encore. That’s right. She threw up for a second and last time in the theater. But the memory lives on in the Tony winner’s head forever.
I just have to say, I admire the audience for not doing the Stand By Me pie-eating contest scene and following her lead. The thought of it made me throw up a little in my mouth. So, I don’t know how they didn’t do it. Especially because they could not clean it up until the play stopped. Imagine the smell. And what if it got on you? The thought of it all. So gross!
And thankfully, Hayes can laugh about it now! As did everyone else on the panel, Because as gross as it was. It is a hilarious story, many years later.
