Christine McVie, the songbird of Fleetwood Mac, passed away today at the age of 79 from a short illness according to her family.

“There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie,” the statement reads. “She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”

McVie started playing the piano at 4 but did not start perfecting it until she was 11. Then music became her life. She joined her first band, Chicken Shack, in her mid-’20s, but her life changed when she became a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1970.

Through the band, she had several hits, including, Don’t Stop, Over My Head, Hold Me, and so much more.

Her raspy voice and poignant lyrics drew everyone to her. So today, let’s belt out her tunes and let our voices rise her up to heaven.
