Sir Paul McCartney today reacted furiously to claims by his estranged wife that he attacked her during their stormy four-year marriage. Heather Mills, 38, accuses him of being domineering, abusive and frequently drunk or high on drugs. She says he was violent four times during furious rows in which he: •Stabbed her in the arm with a broken wine glass leaving her scarred. • Shoved her, sending her flying over a coffee table. • Grabbed her around the throat. • Pushed her into a bath while she was pregnant. The allegations contained in 13 pages of leaked divorce papers were branded lies by the 64-year-old star. The former model, who lost her leg in a traffic accident in 1993, claims that he demanded she cook his dinner every night even when she was on crutches with a broken pelvic plate. She says he would not let her have an antique bedpan under their bed to save her crawling to the bathroom at night, saying it would be like "an old woman’s homeî. Ms Mills, who was today taking part in a TV broadcast at St Thomas’ hospital, even accused him of trying to stop her breastfeeding their daughter Beatrice, telling her: "They are my breastsî. Ms Mills says she once found him lying naked and semi-conscious in the bath covered with vomit after one of his frequent drinking binges. The court papers are Ms Mills’s response to his petition for divorce in July when he cited her unreasonable behaviourî. The release of the papers will seriously damage McCartney’s reputation in the battle for his £825 million fortune and mark an escalation in hostilities in what was supposed to be a harmonious split for the sake of their daughter. The papers were leaked last night to the Press Association and Bloomberg news agencies in a fax. The leak is being viewed by McCartney’s side as part of a dirty tricks campaign. Sir Paul was unavailable for official comment today but a close source vehemently denied the accusations made in the papers lodged in the High Court’s family division. The source also accused Ms Mills’s public relations team of "orchestratingî the leak to maximise sympathy for her. The source said: "This is coming from a woman with a well-documented problem with the truth. This document was leaked with the very specific intention in mind of damaging Paul’s reputation and trying to hurt Paul. "She has conducted a whole orchestrated PR campaign throughout of photocalls, leaked stories and now this. Paul denies this version of events completely. "The suggestion for instance he stabbed her with a wine bottle is an outrageous accusation which is designed to damage his reputation and hurt him.î Geoff Baker, McCartney’s former publicist, said: "Heather Mills is a complete fantasist and I would not believe her if she told me the sun set in the West.î Mishcon de Reya, the law firm that acts for Ms Mills, would not comment on the documents’ authenticity but said in a statement: "The law firm can confirm that Lady Heather Mills McCartney stands by everything that has been filed at court on her behalf and intends to prove its truth in due course, should this be necessary.î Phil Hall, Ms Mills’s spokesman, said: "I am certain that Heather would not commit perjury.î The leak is likely to prompt an investigation into how the court papers ended up in the public domain.
