Movie theaters have been shut down for over a year now, and some of them are never going to reopen. Today, Pacific Theatres, which also owns Arclight Cinemas and Cinerama Dome, announced today that the curtain will never go up again.

“After shutting our doors more than a year ago, today we must share the difficult and sad news that Pacific will not be reopening its ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres locations,” Pacific Theatres wrote in a statement.

“This was not the outcome anyone wanted, but despite a huge effort that exhausted all potential options, the company does not have a viable way forward.

“To all the Pacific and ArcLight employees who have devoted their professional lives to making our theaters the very best places in the world to see movies: we are grateful for your service and your dedication to our customers.

“To our guests and members of the film industry who have made going to the movies such a magical experience over the years: our deepest thanks. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you.”

The news is incredibly sad because we are going to need to go to the movies again when we can and feel up to it. I know that their theaters in Los Angeles are located in areas, like The Grove, that need them to reopen to help the businesses in the malls. Stores are helpful, but people like to go to the movies and eat. Without the former, there is not as much reason for the latter.

I think now that many of the studios have streaming sites to also show their movies, they are going to have to lower the cost they charge movie theaters to screen their films if they want to see their features on the big screen. We need to save theaters because there is nothing like seeing an action film in a theater.

There is also nothing like seeing a movie in the Cinerama Dome. It is one of the most famed theaters in the world, and it is owned by Pacific Theatres. Therefore, it was also shut down. I am sure they are going to find a way to save it. At least I hope they do.

Save movie theaters.
