It has been almost four years since Michael Strahan announced that he was leaving Live with Kelly and Michael, and he has not really talked about his controversial exit until now.

The Good Morning American host sat down with New York Times Magazine and revealed how it all went down. He told them that, “I didn’t wake up and say, ‘I want a job at G.M.A.’ I was asked to do it by the people who run the network. It was really not a choice. It was a request. But it was treated as if I was the guy who walked in and said, ‘I’m leaving.’ Then he added, “That part was totally misconstrued, mishandled in every way. People who should have handled it better have all apologized, but a lot of the damage had already been done.”

After everything went down with Kelly Ripa being upset about his new job, he still tried to have weekly meetings with her. They did a few, but then she decided she did not want to do them anymore.

Does he have any animosity towards his former co-host? He said, “I don’t hate her. I do respect her for what she can do at her job. I cannot say enough about how good she is at her job.”

I wonder if she would say the same about him. Probably not. However, at the end of the day, it worked out for both of them. He has Strahan, Sara and Keke, and she has Ryan Seacrest.
