Next month, Mariska Hargitay is hosting the Emmys, and we were not the only ones who were surprised when we found out. The actress was also shocked.
The actress told Savannah Guthrie on Today today that she was surprised. In fact, when she got the call from Pearlena Igbokwe, Chairman, Television Studios, NBC Entertainment & Peacock Scripted, right before she went on stage on Broadway’s Every Brilliant Thing, she thought she was getting fired from Law & Order: SVU, like that would ever happen.
Instead, she got an offer she never expected to get. Did she tell her boss, “yes” immediately? No, because the host role is normally someone with a comedic background. So she told the anchor, “I thought about it. I thought about it over the weekend, and then I started going, ‘Why not?’ which is where I kind of am in my life.”
Thankfully, that she is where she is at these days because I think she will be an outstanding host during TV’s biggest night on September 14th.
