Molly Ringwald shared this photo of her with Matthew Broderick and said, “Wait… Why didn’t we make that movie?” I don’t know what movie that it is, but now I want to know why John Hughes’ biggest muses never did a film together. It would’ve been an ’80s teen girl’s dream. It probably would’ve been bigger than Star Wars. Maybe that big, but pretty darn close.
Too bad Hughes isn’t still around to give us a movie starring these two. Maybe in someway it can still happen. A girl can dream, who wants to dream with me?

I know my comment is years late but Molly Ringwald and Matthew Broderick were actually set to star in a John Hughes movie together called Oil and Vinegar in 1987. The plot involved Matthew playing a young (conservative?) Salesman driving a long distance to his wedding and he picks up a Rock’N Roll Hitchhiker on the side of the road who Molly would play. So it would have starred characters in a car during the movie who were ploar opposites talking about their lives. It was supposedly similar to The Breakfast Club in style. Howard Deutch, who was set to direct the film after a series of complications, called it possibly the greatest script of John Hughes that he ever read. But Deutch no longer wanted to direct because he was spent and Molly and Matthew ran out of scheduling time to do the film as the film was in pre-production. It seems like it would have been an amazing film from what I’ve read.
