October 29th, 2017 under Kevin Spacey, RENT

Over the weekend, Rent’s Anthony Rapp revealed to Buzzfeed that back in 1986, when he was just 14 years old and Kevin Spacey was 26, they had a night he will never forget. Not in a good way, in a nightmare inducing way that has lasted 31 years.

He alleges that Spacey invited him over to his for a party. Then something happened. Rapp says, “My memory was that I thought, Oh, everybody’s gone. Well, yeah, I should probably go home.” He didn’t and Spacey, “sort of stood in the doorway, kind of swaying. My impression when he came in the room was that he was drunk,” adding, “He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.” Then he told the site, “He was trying to seduce me…I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.” Eventually Rapp was able to push the man, who was almost twice his age at the time, off of him, retreat in the bathroom and then eventually head home wondering what just happened. It is night that has stayed with him for over three decades and he feels “fortunate that something worse didn’t happen.”

The story went public and Spacey responded to accusations on Twitter. He says he does not remember the night and blames what might have happened on “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.” He is also sorry for the pain that he caused his fellow actor.

But that is not all that the Oscar winner revealed, he also finally came clean about all of those rumors that he is a Gay man. He confirmed that he has “had relationships with both men and women.” But he chose “now to live as a Gay man.”

He concluded his statement by saying, “I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior.”

Seven minutes after Spacey posted his statement, the Star Trek: Discovery star Tweeted, “I came forward with my story, standing on the shoulders of the many courageous women and men who have been speaking out to shine a light and hopefully make a difference, as they have done for me. Everything I wanted to say about my experience is in that article, and I have no further comment about it at this time.” Rapp has been openly out for a long time, so it will be interesting to see if he will comment further after Spacey’s apology and confession.

UPDATE: To give you some perspective of what Rapp looked like at the time, it was around when he filmed Adventures in Babysitting. Therefore, he looked like a 14-year-old going on 15 and not 14 going on 21.
