On Tuesday, Josh Groban is releasing Stages, a cover album full of movie and show tunes. One of the songs on the record is Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz. Ever since I saw that track is on the album, I have been curious to hear what he was going to do with it. I have to say I am blown away like Dorothy was in the movie.
As we know the crooner has a very boisterous singing voice, yet he was able to soften it enough for the legendary ballad. I hate when most singers do this song because they change it up so much, it doesn’t sound like the tune that Judy Garland blew us all away with in 1939. Groban made the song his own and yet still kept it the way it was originally done. Because of that, I feel like I’ve followed the Yellow Brick Road all the way to tend and met the Wizard himself.
Are you over the rainbow with his version or do you want the Wicked Witch to send her monkeys after him?
