November 4th, 2010 under Jimmy Kimmel

Yesterday on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the talk show host announced that he wants to make November 17th National UnFriend Day. What he is proposing is that he wants people to UnFriend those that really aren’t their friends on Facebook. He said during yesterday’s monologue, “Friendship is a sacred thing, and I believe Facebook is cheapening it,” Kimmel stated in his announcement. “I go on this Facebook, I see people with thousands of what they call ‘friends’—which is impossible. You can’t have a thousand friends. A friend is someone you have a special relationship with, not someone who asks ‘which Harry Potter character are you?’ Remember five years ago when nobody was on Facebook and you didn’t know what the guy you took high school biology with was having for lunch? Remember how that was totally fine? Let’s go back to that.”
Let’s be real we all have people on Facebook that we aren’t “friends” with, I know I do because I am addicted to Mafia Wars and Sorority Life and I need “friends” for that. Plus like Jimmy said do we really need to know what that person in our 9th grade biology class had for lunch today?
So tune into Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight and every weeknight until Nov. 17th on ABC at 12:06a for updates on National UnFriend Day and see what other “friends” of his are his real Facebook friends. You know, listening to his rant, I don’t feel as bad that he still hasn’t accepted my friend request on Facebook.
