NBC gave us something to sing about last year, and that thing was Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Tonight at 8p, it is back for a second season.

When the show last left off, Zoey (Jane Levy) just lost her father, and her heart songs were silenced. What are heart songs? You see, Zoey went to get an MRI. While she was in the machine, there was an earthquake. Ever since then, she can hear people’s thoughts because they sing and dance for her. Now that her heart is broken, so is the record player in her head.

It has been seven weeks since her father and the music died. She is finally ready to get back to work. However, when she gets there, everything is different. Max (Skylar Astin), who was fired, has been replaced by George (Harvey Guillén). Leif (Michael Thomas Grant), who has been filling in for her, ordered everyone standing desks. SPRQ Point is in financial trouble because their boss is under house arrest. If that is not enough, Zoey’s boss (Lauren Graham) offers her a big promotion. Zoey is not sure she was ready to get back to work. What is she going to do?

Thankfully, things are a little better at home since she moved back in with her mom (Mary Steenburgen). Her mom is trying to get everything in order, but it is not easy. Luckily, she has her newborn grandson to keep her busy. David (Andrew Leeds) and Emily (Alice Lee) are adjusting to being new parents. David wishes he could have gotten some advice from his dad on how to be a better dad before he passed away. Thankfully, there is a way.

Talking about ways, Zoey is still involved in her three-way, well triangle, with Max and Simon (John Clarence Stewart). The two men and Mo (Alex Newell) have gotten close while they have been there for Zoey. It is time for Zoey to make a decision; who will she choose? Are you Team Max or Team Simon?

All of this goes on with the help of some great musical numbers. Zoey gets her heart songs back. You wouldn’t have this show if she didn’t have that ability. And we have the ability to sit back and watch this show that tugs at our heartstrings.

You seriously do not want to miss this show. It was last year’s best new show, and it is just getting better. That is why NBC paired it with This Is Us. They are giving it the respect it deserves. Therefore, you should tune in. What else there to watch? Even if there was, this is a much better show.
