Hayley Hasselhoff plays Amber Stoltz, the skinniest girl at weight-loss camp on ABC Family’s new hit Huge. She talked to me about the show that airs Monday night show at 9p, her family, their upcoming A & E show, her music with her sister and so much more. Hayley’s last name might sound familiar to you because her dad is David Hasselhoff. As of now we have pretty much known her for being his daughter, but with Huge she is making name for herself on her own. Not only is she pretty on the outside, but as you will see with this interview she is even prettier on the inside.
When I sat down with Hayley outside the camp’s wreck center she told me about her role. She explained that Amber is the most determined girl at camp. She wants to lose the weight, so much so she spent all of her own money to get there. Her mom is emotionally wrecked and she finds herself taking care of her. To make it even worse Amber doesn’t have any friends at school. She feels that no guy will like her because of her curves. So she thinks if she gets skinny, that it will be her ticket to happiness. Then once she gets to camp everything changes because the popular girls want to be her friend and all the boys want her to be their girlfriend. So now she has this conflict, does she remain true to herself or does she follow what the popular girls are doing? We will have to watch to see every Monday at 9p.
So how much of Amber is like Hayley? Well she told me like her character she believes in being true to herself and then says isn’t that what every teen goes through? She added, “It’s so hard growing up and not knowing if you should stay true to yourself or not. I think I definitely went through that part of my life when I was younger. But I had the privilege of becoming a plus-size model and that really gave me confidence in myself and gave me confidence in the way that made me realize that I need to stay true to who I am. But more importantly it is about the person you are in the inside and not on the outside.” She said that is how they similar, but they differ because she herself has grown up while Amber is still stuck not knowing where she should go with her life. She concluded the question by saying, “I have definitely gotten to the point in my life where I’m completely happy with who I am as a person and staying true to myself no matter what anyone thinks about me, says about me.” Such words of wisdom from a girl who is only 17.
When I asked her what she thinks the message behind the Huge ABC Family hit she said, “…definitely to love yourself, be comfortable in your own skin. I think that is such an amazing message because there is no show out there right now that says that, represents that. And it really is about staying true to yourself” Saying that she also said that it is a show with a lot of laughter and so many heartwarming situations that teenagers can relate to. In the upcoming episodes it will deal with sexual orientation, eating disorders and panic attacks, and they will show how to deal with it in different ways and also the right way to get through it.
Even though Amber has all the guys wanting her, she only wants one guy…a counselor. What will happen between them…if anything, she says we will have to watch to find out. Even though she wouldn’t tell us what was going to happen with her TV relationship, I wanted to know if life imitated art when she was growing up and did she have a crush on any of her counselors? You will have to watch the above interview to see what she says.
Besides having this show she has a reality show coming up on A&E with her family. She described it as, “It’s just a show about me, my dad and my sister. It’s about our careers, but also to kind of prove the tabloids wrong. I think that the big misconception is that we’re an unpieced family, when in reality we are all best friends, that we are all so close to each other. And the one thing that bugs us the most about the tabloids is saying that our dad is a bad father or that they’re not there for us. That’s the biggest lie out there cause we are just one big happy loving family. It is so funny because we cry so much on the A&E show, because we tell each other how much we love each other, that we are so an emotional family, I feel like. But it’s great because it ties into Huge. It talk about our careers, my sister and my singing band called Bella Vida, also about what my dad’s doing and me getting Huge and they show me coming on set and all of that kind of stuff.” I was excited for this show before I spoke to her, and now I am even more excited.
Besides having a scripted and reality show, she also talked to me about her band Bella Vida with her sister Taylor-Ann. She says they are an electric pop band and they are currently working on their first album. Not only that this Sunday (7/11), they will be making their debut in Austria at her dad’s show.
Hayley’s dad is one of the most recognized actors in the world, so I had to ask her what advice he has given his little girl. She said, “I think the biggest advice my dad has ever given me about acting is actually in the audition room. A lot of times when you go into an audition room, it is kind of intimidating because you are looking at the girls next to you who are up against you for the same role. But the biggest advice he has given me is that when I’m praying for myself, ‘It’s going to be OK. You’re going to do well. You’re going to your best.’, also pray for the girls that are going up against me because they are in the same boat as me. It’s really up to the casting directors and you can’t put it on yourself or the other person that is next to you. It’s just whoever has that vision of that person (they want to cast).” Thankfully the casting director saw something in Hayley because she is so great in her role on Huge. And what amazing and positive advice The Hoff gave her. So selfless in what can be a selfish world.
So what does the Baywatch star think of his little girl following in his footsteps? She shared with me that he knew when she was a baby that this is what she would want to do with her life, so he was ecstatic that she is just like him.
Coming up on August 15th her dad is going to be roasted on Comedy Central and I was wondering if she was nervous about it. Nope, in fact she says is excited for it and she thinks it is going to be so much fun. She is looking forward to all things that will come out into the open, that they will be able to laugh and joke about!
Enough talk about her dad, what does she want people to take away from Huge. She said, “Before I even got the role I was so excited that there was a show out there that’s saying it is OK to be voluptuous, it is OK to be plus-size, more importantly it is OK to be yourself! And that’s what people should be and that is how teenagers should be. I think that is the biggest misconception for teenagers growing up that staying true to themselves. So it is so great being part of a show like this.” And is so great having her be part of this show. Hayley Hasselhoff is definitely one to watch, so make sure to watch her every Monday at 9p on ABC Family in Huge!
