Fresh Off the Boat debuts on ABC tonight at 8:30p and 9:30p and you don’t want to miss this funny sitcom with a lot of heart!
Eddie and his parents, first generation Americans from China, are moving from Washington DC to Orlando, Fla in the 1990s. They are making the move because his dad has just opened up a Country themed restaurant in the Sunshine State. Eddie and his mom don’t want to make the move, but his two younger brothers are happy with whatever decision their parents make.
Eddie’s dad is trying to live the American Dream, and is a much more relaxed guy than his mom. His mom is tough and counts every dollar his restaurant makes. She also wants her sons to keep their Chinese traditions and that includes doing really well in school.
Eddie is Americanized and wants to be a normal kid. Which isn’t easy with him mom. Plus, he listens to hardcore rap and not that many kids in Orlando are as hip as him. That means he is having a hard time fitting in and making friends.
Just when everything seems like it is at the worst for this family after they move, they pull together and support each other.
Hudson Yang who plays Eddie is perfect in the role. You can’t help but fall in love with him and sympathize with his character as he goes through it all. Randall Park as his dad brings the right amount of innocence, business smarts and loving husband and father to the role. Constance Wu is likeable as his mom even when she is being her toughest and wait until you hear sing Karaoke.
Fresh Off the Boat is a great sitcom for you to watch with your family every Tuesday night at 8p for an hour. It’s the perfect mix of laughs and touching moments. We can all see ourselves in the Huangs and isn’t that what a family show is supposed to be like? So see for yourself how much they are like you tonight at 8:30p and 9:30p!
