Faye Dunaway earned critical acclaim for her role in Bonnie and Clyde, but most of us love her and honor her for playing Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest. Today, she crapped all over that admiration in an interview with People according to Entertainment Tonight.
She told the magazine, “I think it turned my career in a direction where people would irretrievably have the wrong impression of me…and that’s an awful hard thing to beat.” Then she added, “I should have known better, but sometimes you’re vulnerable and you don’t realize what you’re getting into.”
The actress doesn’t understand why the biography was turned into a movie in the first place. Does that mean she is ashamed that she took on the part? She said, “But you can’t be ashamed of the work you’ve done. You make a decision, and then you have to live with the consequences.”
The consequence, I see, are fans that loved her for a role that she played to perfection.
