Simon Cowell announced he is working on a charity song for the people of Haiti like Bob Geldof did with Band-Aid back in the ’80s and now we know what song they are going to cover…REM’s Everybody Hurts according to SkyNews. Out of all the songs ever recorded, why this one? I am not saying I don’t love this song, but I have personally always associated this song with death because I remember hearing it when my friend’s brother died and it sounds like a suicide prevention song to me. According to Wikipedia Peter Buck wrote this in the linear notes for their greatest hits, “the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers,” and he added, “I’ve never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me.” Does that sound like the right song to raise money for Haiti with? I mean if you read the lyrics it can work, but it is just such a depressing song. I am sure I am not the only person who associates this song with suicide prevention?
BTW here is who is going to be part of the cover, Mika, Leona Lewis, Michael Buble, JLS, Rod Stewart, Will Young, Joe McElderry, N-Dubz, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Take That and Sir Paul McCartney.
Finally I really hope that Simon Cowell throws a lot of money Haiti’s way and doesn’t just work on this song. If anyone has money to give it is him.
