October 3rd, 2006 under Syfy, TV Scripted Prime Time

The Sci Fi Channel has reached the final stage of negotiations for a second-season renewal of its scripted series "Eureka." The pickup of "Eureka" is a no-brainer, as it has performed solidly in the Nielsen ratings. The show has averaged 2.76 million total viewers for the 11 weeks beginning with a two-hour premiere July 18. The final episode of its rookie season is slated for today. Fueled by "Eureka" and original scripted series such as "Battlestar Galactica," "Stargate Atlantis," and, in its final season, "Stargate: SG-1," the Sci Fi Channel wound up as the 10th highest-rated network in total primetime viewers for the third quarter, and finished ninth overall among those 25-54, Sci Fi’s target demo. Bonnie Hammer, president of USA and Sci Fi, said one of her goals is to schedule two nights of scripted original series on Sci Fi in the next year or so. Sci Fi would be following the lead of USA, which delivered one of the best third quarters in its history thanks, in part, to four hit series: "Monk" and "Psych" on Friday and "The 4400" and "The Dead Zone" on Sunday.
