October 18th, 2006 under CBS

CBS execs yesterday told “Waterfront” star Joe Pantoliano and his Providence-based TV crew to fugeddaboudit – the mid-season replacement series was canceled before it ever got on the air! Word from the set is that Pantoliano, who played – what else? – a corrupt Buddy Cianciesque mayor in the Warner Bros. drama, delivered the not-so-good word to the cast and crew yesterday. Four episodes of the show are in the can, but a network insider told the Track the network’s schedule is doing so well that CBS won’t need too many mid-season replacements. And if they do need any fresh blood, they’ve got a pool of shows all ready to roll. Rhode Island film office cheese Steven Feinberg, who helped skipper the “Waterfront” production, said he was surprised by the cancellation, but took the well-that’s-showbiz tack. “I thought the pilot was wonderful and it had a terrific cast,” he said, adding that the performance by “Sopranos” vet Joey Pants in the last scene in the pilot was “masterful.” “But it’s the nature of the TV beast.” Another source told us that after viewing a couple of the episodes, the network brass just wasn’t impressed.

Poor Joey Pants just can’t catch a break at CBS.
