Weird Al Yancovic’s Lame Claim to Fame |

Let’s be real, we all have a story about meeting a celebrity or being in the same place as one or maybe even knowing someone who knows someone famous. Well, Weird Al Yankovic not only recorded a song about it on Mandatory Fun that’s out now, but he also made video for the tune as well. How many of those examples can you relate to from that song?
So you want to know my Lame Claim to Fame? One time, I was in the green room at The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Weird Al Yankovic was there too. He was a guest on the show, and I was there to take my really good friend, who is a HUGE fan, to see him on the late night talk show. I ran late, so we were stuck in the green room. Did we talk to him? Sadly, no because you can’t do that during a lame claim to fame. Maybe next time, for my friend’s sake.
And my other Weird Al lame claim to fame story, is Seth Green stood behind me on the line to get food during Yankovic’s concert at The Greek. I was totally oblivious to it, until my friend (the HUGE fan) told me about it after the fact.
Now when it comes Mandatory Fun as an entire album, it truly is mandatory fun! My favorite song off of the CD is Now That’s What I Call Polka which is a megamix of him singing hits like Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball, Psy’s Gangnam Style, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe, Daft Punk’s Lucky and LMFAo’s I’m Sexy and I Know It, Polka style. I’ve been waiting all week for the video and it just didn’t happened. He also didn’t release a music video for his version of Imagine Dragon’s Radioactive called Inactive. Oh well, at least we got to see Tacky (Pharrell’s Happy), Foil (Lorde’s Royal), Handy (Iggy Azalea’s Fancy), The Sports Song, First World Problems (which is a total classic), Mission Statement and Lame Claim to Fame. If you notice, I didn’t include Word Crimes (Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines) on that list. That’s because I was really insulted by that song. I knows I have those grammar issues, I just don’t have to hear about it in a song. But other than that, you like totally want to add Mandatory Fun to your collection because it is so much fun to listen to when you’re out and about looking for a lame claim to fame.

Weird Al Yankovic is tacky! |

Weird Al Yankovic is releasing his 14th studio album tomorrow. To promote Mandatory Fun he’s releasing a music video a day for the next 8 days from the album. Today is day one, and he’s starting the ball rolling with his parody of Pharrell William’s Happy. The first song off the record is called Tacky and he got some tacky friends like Jack Black and Eric Stonestreet to help him out. As fun as it is to see Jack Black Twerk, I would’ve preferred watching Weird Al the whole time because his moves were just hypnotizing. Exactly like Pharrell’s hat! On that note where what that hat in this video? That was a totally missed opportunity.

On July 15th, Weird Al Yankovic is releasing his 14th album and today they released the tracklisting for Mandatory Fun. At this point, we don’t know what songs he is parodying on the CD that is available for preorder now. But it appears that he won’t be doing the one I was hoping he’d do. I was really wishing he was going to record his version of Psy’s Gangnam Style as Polka Style. Could you imagine the video he would’ve done for it?
On that note, starting on July 14th, he will be releasing a music video a day for 8 days from Mandatory Fun. And it will be mandatory fun to watch them all.
Below are the songs from the album and I’m thinking Word Crimes might be Blurred Lines. Have you been able to decipher what other tunes he is giving his own twist to on it?
1 – Handy
2 – Lame Claim to Fame
3 – Foil
4 – Sports Song
5 – Word Crimes
6 – My Own Eyes
7 – NOW That’s What I Call Polka!
8 – Mission Statement
9 – Inactive
10 – First World Problems
11 – Tacky
12 – Jackson Park Express

Hey Weird Al is that a dolphin between your legs, or are you happy to see me? |

Weird Al Yankovic Instagrammed this photo of himself of a dolphin kiddie ride; and it’s just so cute that I had to share with you. Wonder if after he rode that fish, he went inside to stomp on some weasels?
Even I will admit that my joke was White & Nerdy, but in my defense at the time I thought it made the cut Like a Surgeon. OK, I’ll stop now before you send me to an Amish Paradise.

Weird Al Yankovic goes straight |

Weird Al Yankovic pretty much always wears his hair showcasing his natural curls. Well yesterday the singer Instagrammed the above photo with very loose waves. So are those curls gone forever? Nope the look was just for a photoshoot, as soon as he washes his hair they will be back. Although part of me wishes he would keep his locks this way because it really suits him!
