April 7th, 2007 under VH1/MTV. [ Comments: 1 ]

“Pimp My Ride” at 9:00PM (ET/PT)
In true rags to riches fashion, MTV’s “Pimp My Ride” returns for an all new season with even more car creativity and innovation. The season premiere catches up with past clunkers turned pimped-out masterpieces in a special “Where are They Now” episode. Rap superstar and host Xzibit is joined by car customization specialist Mad Mike and his crazy car makeover team at GAS (Galpin Auto Sports) to take customization to a whole new level. MTV.com (pimpmyride.mtv.com) will be the comprehensive online destination for the new season of “Pimp My Ride.”

“Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz” at 9:30PM (ET/PT)
Nick Cannon’s latest project with MTV, “Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz,” is a new sketch comedy series created, executive produced and starring Nick himself. The new series features Nick along with some of today’s hottest comedy players (some of who you’ll recognize from his hit MTV improv show, “Wild N Out”) as they bring a fresh new blend of sketch comedy that skewers pop culture with a hip-hop edge; from topical sketches to dead-on impersonations. Viewers will enjoy the hilarious antics of Nick Cannon and his uber-talented comedy crew who parody everything including “R.A.C.S” (Rappers Against Child Support) — rappers who band together for a common cause, and Mo Dolla$ — a pimped out judge, who’s the star of his wacky courtroom. Plus watch as celebrity guests join in the fun including Paris Hilton who spoofs herself as she hocks her very own “WWPD” (What Would Paris Do) bracelet. Other guest celebrities include ‘Lil Jon, Snoop Dogg, Ice-T and Kevin Hart. To keep the laughs going online, visit shortcircuitz.mtv.com.

“Adventures in HollyHood” at 10:00PM (ET/PT)

As the first hip-hop group ever to win an Oscar for Best Song, a music career defined by multi-platinum success, and recognized by millions of loyal fans across the globe, some may say hip-hop super group Three 6 Mafia has accomplished it all. However, it is only the beginning for this hip hop powerhouse as MTV follows them on their biggest adventure yet — Hollywood, CA. “Adventures in HollyHood” features Juicy J, DJ Paul, and their entourage of friends leaving the comforts of their Memphis home behind and hitting the road to conquer Tinseltown and trying to become major Hollywood players. To experience “Adventures In HollyHood” online, visit hollyhood.mtv.com.

“Human Giant” at 10:30PM (ET/PT)
“Human Giant” hijacks the network with its own style of fast-paced, hard-hitting comedy. “Human Giant” is Aziz Ansari, Rob Huebel, Paul Scheer and Jason Woliner. First seen online, short clips like “Shutterbugs,” “Clell Tickle: Indie Marketing Guru” and “The Illusionators” have gained a huge cult following. The short films stay true to that user-gen and viral video feel, intensified by a rebellious rock n’ roll attitude. Never a dull moment as special guest appearances include Ghostface Killah, Tony Hawk, Kelly Slater, Mary Lynn Rajskub (“24”), Patton Oswalt (“Reno 911”), Rob Riggle (“The Daily Show”), and Brian Posehn (“The Sarah Silverman Program”). “Human Giant” has gained a large audience in the New York comedy scene through live shows at the underground club Upright Citizens Brigade and was recently named one of “10 Comics to Watch in 2006” by Variety. More information on Human Giant can be found on MTV.com and thehumangiant.com.

Shouldn’t there be a warning for this reality show?
February 27th, 2007 under Naomi Campbell, VH1/MTV. [ Comments: none ]

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is to star in an MTV reality TV show following her recruitment of a new personal assistant. Campbell, whose last six assistants have quit because of her temper, and who has been accused of assault by two previous assistants, has decided she needs a new asistant, and what better way to find one than in front of the cameras. The MTV reality show is due to the supermodel’s plans to overcome the public perception of her. A source said: "Naomi is famous for her spats with staff, so the idea is to try to have some fun and capitalize on the situation. Plus, it's TV work, which Naomi hopes will lead to acting jobs."

I wonder what the insurance policy was for this show? And if she was banned from having a cell phone while filming?

Who are Platinum Weird?
February 19th, 2007 under VH1/MTV. [ Comments: none ]

Tune into VH-1 on July 5th at 6p to find out.

In 1974, Dave Stewart formed a band called Platinum Weird in North London with his female songwriting partner, muse and soul mate, Erin Grace. The pair originally met a few months earlier and formed a creative and spiritual bond. Their debut gig

was at Mick Jagger’s birthday party where they quickly enjoyed a cult-like status performing at intimate gigs in London’s rock club circuit. Elton John’s Rocket label signed the band, putting down an advance to send them into studio and lay down tracks.

Erin’s behavior during the making of the album was unpredictable and eccentric. Prone to mood swings and emotional insecurity, she would often disappear for days, and then reappear as if nothing was unusual with a smile and couple of new songs. Perhaps because of her unconventional persona, men desired her and women emulated her. "She was wispy and elusive," Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, once said. "I wasn’t quite sure what she was about, but I kind of copied her look."

With art work finalized and a release date penciled in, Erin vanished again, leaving Dave nothing but a demo of a song called ‘Will You Be Around’ and a closet of metal hangers where she used to keep her clothes. As suddenly as she had appeared in Dave’s life, she was gone. "In a strange way," reflects Mick Jagger, "I think Dave was the least surprised by what happened. Knowing her nature, I think he found it kind of appropriate."

The highly anticipated eponymous album of Platinum Weird was never released and its name disappeared from public consciousness as quickly as the elusive songstress herself. Dave went into a deep depression, a period he later referred to as his ‘lost years.’

Yes, I believed the Behind the Music with Garth Brooks’ alter-ego Chris Gaines too.

Armed and Famous gets a VH1 tryout this Saturday
February 19th, 2007 under Armed & Famous, VH1/MTV. [ Comments: none ]

Fans of Armed & Famous can get their fix of the celebrity reality show when an unaired episode of the Muncie-based series airs this Saturday on cable network VH1. The fifth episode of the series will air at 9 p.m. (Comcast Channel 36), with the four previously aired episodes preceding it as part of a five-hour, Armed & Famous marathon. Producers had previously said seven episodes of the series were scheduled to be made. A VH1 spokesman told The Star Press on Monday, "If the producers deliver to us the sixth and seventh episodes of the show, then we will air them. As of now, it's unclear whether they are finishing them or not." VH1 will again run the first five episodes beginning at noon Wednesday, Feb. 7. A phone call to Armed & Famous producer Tom Forman was not returned Monday. Chris Ender, senior vice president of communications for CBS, said Tuesday that the network had not technically canceled the show, which stars celebrities Erik Estrada, Trish Stratus, La Toya Jackson, Jack Osbourne and Jason "Wee Man" Acuña becoming cops with the Muncie Police Department. "The official term is 'hiatus,'" Ender said, "which is a fancy, Hollywood phrase for a show that's been pulled from the schedule and does not yet have a planned return date." Ender said CBS's decision to place Armed & Famous on hiatus "simply came down to the ratings." On Monday, members of the city's police force said they were disappointed to hear of initial reports CBS had canceled Armed & Famous. "I can't say I was completely surprised, given what it was going up against," Police Chief Joe Winkle said, referring to its American Idol competition. "But the fact they're saying it's canceled doesn't change why we did it, or the fact that many of us enjoyed being a part of this show." Winkle said he'd been happy with the way the MPD was portrayed in episodes of the series thus far. "I think it opened some people's eyes to what we do each night," he said, noting that the police department takes about 4,500 to 5,000 calls per month. Winkle said he also did not believe that the series' getting pulled would result in CBS retracting its gift of three Hummers for the police force. "That'd kind of be like them taking back a Christmas present, now wouldn't it?" he joked. Sgt. Rick Eber, who helped with training the celebrity officers, said his experience on national television had yet to sink in. "I'm getting calls from family and friends in Texas and Florida, people I haven't talked to in years who've seen me on the show," he noted.

The Star Press

I think if VH1 had control of the show from the get-go it would've been a much better show!

Celebrity Fit Club 5 turns into Celebrity Fight Club
February 19th, 2007 under VH1/MTV. [ Comments: none ]

It’s chaos on the set of VH1’s hit show "Celebrity Fit Club," and TMZ has exclusive details on the multiple battles raging between its stars. According to on-set sources, the first fight took place between medical/diet expert Dr. Ian and Ant, the show’s host — over a cigarette. We’re told that during a break in filming, Dr. Ian exploded after Ant fired up a cancer stick in the doc’s vicinity, and began shouting and threatening Ant with violence, forcing producers to immediately shut down production. We’re told that after the two men were separated, egos were stroked, and both men got over the flare-up and production resumed. Soon after, as first reported on PerezHilton.com, former child star-turned-porn-star Dustin Diamond allegedly threatened to "make a dildo of my c**k and f**k" former "American Idol" star Kimberly Locke with "it" during a heated on-set altercation. According to our sources, Locke, along with almost every member of the cast, including 80’s pop star Tiffany, rap star Warren G and "Brady Bunch" star Maureen "Marcia" McCormick all stormed off the set. Only Ross the Intern stayed. We’re told that producers have exiled Dustin Diamond and he will no longer have any interaction with the cast. According to our source, the cast couldn’t be happier with the Screeching halt. Calls to VH1 have not been returned. A rep for Dustin has denied all allegations surrounding the actor.

TMZ

Looks like this season is going to be the best of them all. That being said, hopefully this will be the final nail in Screech’s career coffin because I would be happy never to see him again!
