Political Animals is back with its second episode on USA tonight at 10p and I honestly think it is better than the pilot.
In tonight’s episode we flash back to the moment that Elaine Barrish (Sigourney Weaver) found out her husband former-President of the United States (Ciarán Hinds) cheated on her. As you watch those flashbacks, you get to think that this is what Hillary Clinton must’ve gone through when she found out Bill Clinton and his many mistresses. It is played out with such heart and such compassion, you can’t help be drawn into Elaine’s lowest moment and find yourself feeling for her. You get to see how just tough and yet how weak she is when the man she loves betrayed her.
Now back to the current day her ex-husband is being sent overseas to get three American hostages back to the USA who have been sentenced to death. You get to witness what it must be like for international political figures negotiate for human lives and what stupidities can hinder that goal. Will Bud Hammond be able to do it or will he serve his ex-wife yet another embarrassment to her overstuffed plate? You will have to tune in to find and watch it all the way until the end because someone very close to her will betray her big time in the final seconds of the show. I can’t tell you who, but I can say you will be left with your mouth wide open, kind of like one of Bud’s ex-mistresses…
What makes Political Animals so special is that Greg Berlanti creates heartfelt family dramas that everyone can relate to and you can actually feel for the characters. His words and scenarios just grab hold of your heart strings and never let go. Out of all the show creators out there, I think he writes the realest characters on TV. And unlike other shows, the man who brought us Everwood and Eli Stone, writes episodes that have a feel good feeling about them. I am always happy when some graduates from one of his shows to create their own because that means there will be more shows like his on TV and let’s be honest we all need them.
Greg Berlanti’s genius is back tonight in USA’s limited series event Political Animals on USA at 10p.
Sigourney Weaver plays Elaine Barrish who is kind of Hillary Clinton, but instead of staying married to her cheating husband she tells the ex-President she wants a divorce on the night she concedes her bid to be President of the United States. Also instead of having a daughter she has two sons. One son (James Wolk) who is engaged to be married and the other one (Sebastian Stan) is the first openly out First Child and he has a secret that can hurt his family. That secret is being used a reporter (Carla Gugino) who will do anything to interview Secretary of State Barrish. Through that interview we learn more about the former First Lady, and behind the scenes we see just how tough she is and that the wrong person won.
Political Animals is an interesting drama that goes places no show has gone before. And Ellen Burstyn, who plays Barrish’s mom, is the cherry on top of this Sundae, I mean Sunday, mini-series
White Collar and Covert Affairs are back on USA tonight with their new seasons and there are going to be a lot of changes for both shows.
White Collar is back at 9p, but Neal and Peter are apart. As you remember in the season finale Peter told Neal to run, so he did with Mozzie. Now the two of them are at a remote location and Peter is back in NY. He is OK with that arrangement until someone from DC will do anything to bring Caffrey back dead or alive. Peter realizes he has to find his friend/partner before his DC cohort does. Will he be able to do it or will Neal be on the run with Mozzie for the rest of the season? I can’t tell you that, but what I can tell you is the season arc will be revealed at the end of next week’s thrilling episode.
Now when it comes to Covert Affairs, the note inside the screener said not to reveal any big plot details so there isn’t much I can tell you. What I will tell you without spoiling too much is that there will be explosion and someone we have known since the beginning of the series will die. Do you think you know how it is?
Even though the temperature outside has been reaching record levels, the inside will now be matching that because these two hot show are back on TV.
Suits is back on USA tonight at 10p and Jessica knows Mike’s secret. So now that she knows he has lied about his past, will she fire him? What will she do to Harvey for lying to her? What will Harvey and Mike do now that their cover is blown?
Plus there are going to be changes at Pearson Hardman this season because someone is coming back and that person is going to change things up. No one will be happy with the new addition, but they definitely give the show a whole new feel.
Royal Pains is back on USA tonight at 9p and there is huge trouble with HankMed. The Lawson brothers are no longer working together and Evan is looking for Hank’s replacement. In the process he is losing clients, Hank is getting some new ones and Divya is caught in the middle. Besides all of their issues there are still sick clients out there and in tonight’s episode they might not have the stomach for what is wrong with them. It is July 4h in the Hamptons with an eating competition going on and a few of the contestants might not be up for the challenge. And we won’t be up for the challenge of a waiting a week to find out what happens next with the shocking ending of the show.
Then at 10p Necessary Roughness is back and we find out if TK is going to make it after being shot in the season finale. Whatever the outcome things will be changed for everyone forever. It isn’t only the shooting they have to worry about, The Hawks are broke and people are being fire. Will Dani and Matthew be able to survive the cut? While they fear their jobs, Nico has a lot of stuff on his plate.
Let’s just say the season premiere is not all happy, joy joy but the show is still good and addictive.
