Sunday Bloody Sunday
February 19th, 2007 under U2. [ Comments: none ]

A church has announced it is planning a service using U2 hits instead of hymns. St Swithin’s Church in Lincoln will hold what is thought to be the country’s first Holy Communion with rock music in May. The event, which it has dubbed "U2-charist", is based on similar initiatives which have been used in the USA in recent years to attract more worshipers. A band will cover the songs, which will include Mysterious Ways and Beautiful Day and the congregation will sing along karaoke style with lyrics on a big screen. The service will also look at the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals which have been championed by U2’s Bono. The Right Reverend Timothy Ellis, The Bishop of Grantham, said services should be fun. "The Millennium Development Goals are extremely important for the future of the world," he commented. "It is also very important that we continue to try to find ways of worshipping that are surprising, challenging and fun." He continued: "Rock music can be a vehicle of immense spirituality."

There is just something so sacrilegious about that.

Bono will be Knighted
December 23rd, 2006 under U2. [ Comments: none ]

U2 singer Bono is to be knighted by the Queen in the New Year. The frontman will be honoured for his humanitarian work, which along with Bob Geldof included organising Live 8 in 2005, and his services to the music industry. The 46-year-old will receive the award at a ceremony to be conducted by British ambassador David Reddaway in Dublin. Despite receiving the honour, he will not be awarded with the title of "Sir" because he is not a British national. Previous non-British recipients include Bill Gates, Placido Domingo, Rudolf Giuliani, Steven Spielberg and Simon Wiesenthal According to U2’s official website, Bono, who has lobbied Western leaders to increase aid to developing countries and cancel Third World debt, is "very flattered" to receive the honour. Tony Blair has also sent the U2 singer a letter congratulating him on his knighthood, reports BBC News. Mr Blair wrote: "I want personally to thank you for the invaluable role you played in the run-up to the Gleneagles G8 summit. Without your personal contribution, we could not have achieved the results we did. "So thank you and I look forward to continuing to work together to maintain momentum on Africa, and ensure leaders around the world meet the promises they have made."

I did not know that if you are not a British citizen that you don’t get the Sir title, that kind of stinks.

Warning: Bono is a bathing suit
October 4th, 2006 under Celeb Oops, U2. [ Comments: none ]

We’ve always know he was one of the world’s biggest stars. But it seems as though Bono has taken the role a bit too literally. U2’s frontman and philanthropist looked decidedly podgy as he strode around in his shorts while on holiday in Croatia. The 46-year-old was relaxing in the Adriatic sunshine with his wife of 24 years, Alison Hewson, 45. Perhaps he’s been indulging a little too much in the sweetest things. And it’s time to get back in training for another world tour…

Boy I am glad I have had nothing to eat yet because it would all be coming up right about now. Ewww Ewww Ewww!
