If you watch Gold Rush on Discovery every Friday at 9p, then you would know that Parker’s Grandpa John Schnabel is like a grandfather to everyone there. Today is his 96th birthday, yes he’s 96 years young, and he has some words of wisdom to share with all of us. Having him share his knowledge about life with us is worth more than its weight in gold.
When he was asked what he has learned, in his nearly 30 years, of mining gold, he shared with his fans, “Optimism is the first ingredient that will allow you to succeed. Cause optimism gives you the strength to face difficulties otherwise you would just lay down and say, ‘I quit!'” Then he added, “I think you have to enjoy what you are doing. Frankly, that is almost as important as anything else can be. If you don’t enjoy your work then you are in the wrong place.”
Then someone wanted to know how to succeed in life? His advice is, “You got to make up your mind when you start anything that you are going to win. You can only succeed if you have confidence and an attitude, then it’s possible to be a winner. Otherwise you are going to be left on the side of the road.”
When it comes to what he loves to do besides mining gold. He sweetly revealed, “It’s to spend time with members of my family.”
My favorite question that he answered wasn’t on the video. Someone wanted to know from him how to deal with a difficult person. His response is one we should all follow, “Don’t give up on them. If a person is being difficult, try to find out why. If you can develop an ability to have some measure of empathy with them that will enable you to understand why they act the way they act…you can be a very valuable element in making their life better.”
He is making our lives better by sharing these golden nuggets with us. His words can be used for so many things in our daily lives. Take what he says to heart, and some day share his knowledge with someone else. You can then make someone else’s life better, like he has just made yours.
Now, when it comes to Grandpa John Schnabel, can you believe he will turn 100 during the next leap year? He doesn’t look anywhere close to his age. He looks and acts like someone who is in their 70’s if not younger. Don’t you think?
Make his birthday even more special and watch Gold Rush tomorrow and every Friday at 9p on Discovery.
Silento’s Watch Me is on its last Whip/Nae Nae and now it is time to do the Honey Boo Boo Bop. Yes, that Honey Boo Boo is back and now she is singing and dancing her heart out with her first single Movin’ Up. I don’t know if I downed one too many Go-Go Juices, but I can’t stop singing this song.
Maybe Lifetime will give Mama June and her clan a reality show, so that Alana and the girls from Dance Moms can go on tour together. What is up with all these Reality pre-teens trying to pop stars?
When something horrible happens, your first thought, no matter what your faith is, is to pray. Each Sunday at 10p, TLC’s Answered Prayers tells the stories of people’s prayers who were answered in their most desperate time of need.
In tonight’s season premiere, it is a beautiful day in Henryville, Indiana, but the meteorologists are predicting a huge storm. The Gilles family start their day off normally and send their three kids to school and the husband goes to work. Then when he feels the storm is coming, he calls his wife and says let’s prepare for it. She thinks he is crazy because the sun is shining. She eventually gives in and picks up her kids from the school bus they were riding home on. When they get home, she grabs all the blankets in the house, the kids’ bicycle helmets and locks all 4 of them in the closet. Her husband comes home just as the E4 tornado comes barreling towards their house. The 5 of then huddle together as the tornado lifts their home and catapults them the distance of 3 football fields. When they are finally back on the ground they are scattered all over the place and the parents are injured. How will they find their three kids amongst all of the debris. Just when it seems it can’t get any worse, the sky darkens and another tornado comes their way. Will anyone rescue them before it is too late? All they have to go on in prayer, but is that enough?
Then in Florida a father mows the lawn on a lawnmower as his son rides bike near him. When the dad puts the lawnmower in reverse, he didn’t realize his 3 year old son got off the bike and it right behind him. Then he feels a bump and sees his son’s leg under the machine. He lifts it up off his boy and carries him to a neighbor who is a nurse. The father is devastated and can’t stop feeling guilty over what he did. The doctors tell him son will be OK, but they are not sure they can save his leg. Eventually they do, but his leg will never function like a normal one. After 4 years of pain and countless surgeries, 7 year old Jake tells his parents he wants his bad leg amputated. The father feels awful and now Jake’s parents have to decide if amputation is the right thing to do. The night before the surgery, his parents pray for a sign that they are making the right choice. As they are driving to the hospital, they get that sign. A sign that could only come from Gd. What it is, you will have to tune in to see.
Answered Prayers is told by the people who lived the life changing events, visualized with reenactments and Roma Downey narrates the segments. No matter what your faith, Answered Prayers is the perfect show to end your weekend with. When it is done, it will make you want to hug your loved ones a little tighter and tell them how much you love them. How many shows cause that reaction?
Months after news broke that Josh Duggar allegedly molested 4 of his sisters and an underage babysitter when he was a teenager, TLC has finally cancelled 19 Kids and Counting.
Here is the statement about the cancellation and the upcoming documentary:
After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting. The show will no longer appear on the air.
The recent attention around the Duggars has sparked a critical and important conversation about child protection.
Over these past weeks, TLC has consulted regularly with leading victims’ rights and advocacy organizations in the U.S., including RAINN and Darkness to Light, to discuss how to use this moment to address the issue and make a positive impact. Unfortunately, child sexual abuse is not an isolated issue; it affects many children and families around the world. To that end, we are partnering with both organizations on a multi-platform campaign to raise awareness and educate parents and families about the issue. In the first phase of this initiative, TLC will work closely with both groups and with the Duggar family on a one-hour documentary that will include Jill and Jessa and other survivors and families that have been affected by abuse.
TLC has been especially concerned for the victims in this situation, including the Duggar family, and it is our hope that this effort will help those in need learn where to turn for information and help. The documentary will be commercial free, and we anticipate it will air later this summer.
I don’t blame TLC for waiting to cancel it because it was one of their top-rated shows. It is a money game, and the show was making them money. I am very proud of them for making the right decision and finally cancelling the show. I also respect them for doing a documentary about abuse. It is not their fault this happened, but it is good to see that they are trying to rectify the situation.

Tonight at 9p on Investigation Discovery’s The Hunt for Ted Bundy we learn how the detectives were able to finally capture the infamous serial killer not once but twice.
During the early ’70s, Seattle was safe place, but then things all changed. A serial killer came to town and he was killing young women. Now the quiet town, was screaming with murder.
The detectives did not have much to go on in their search. All they knew was his possible name, a sketch and what type of car he drove.
Remember this is the early ’70s, they didn’t have the technology we have today. Former Detectives Kathy McChesney and Bob Keppel will tell you how they were able to use what little information they had in order to trap their killer before he killed again.
Not only was the technology much harder to capture their suspect, it also made it harder to identify their victims. The only way they could identify them was via their dental records. Keppel tells us how he memorized their X-ray, so when he finally found their remains he was able to know which girl was which.
Eventually the killings stopped in Washington, but they fear he has moved on. He has and he is finally captured and arrested in Colorado for the murders he committed there. One night Keppel will get a call that will change everything. Bundy escaped and no one knows where he is.
Things are quiet for a while, and then the murdering starts again in Florida. Eventually the cops will catch him and you will never believe how.
Once he is in their hands, they try him for the murders in their state. He is found guilty and sentenced to death. Days before his execution, Bundy asks to meet with Keppel. When the two men meet, Keppel recorded what Bundy told him. He has not listened to those tapes since 1989 until this show. To watch his face as he hears Bundy’s voice says it all. Then you realize you are hearing Bundy in his voice as he describes how he killed and deposed of some of his victims.
I have seen many movies and documentaries about Ted Bundy, and I think this is the best one. It is really intriguing to hear the detectives who actually worked on the case talk about it.
Whether you are interested in Ted Bundy and/or serial killers or not, you will find The Hunt for Ted Bundy really interesting to watch.
