Barbara Walters read a specifically written Top 10 for her on The Late Show with David Letterman yesterday and who knew the serious news lady was so funny.
Top Ten Questions Never Before Asked by Barbara Walters starts off slow, but once she asks, “Anyone got a job for me?” things start to pick up. Then when she wants to know what Miley Cyrus has that she doesn’t, and you will quickly find out the answer to that one. Which brings us to a #1 on the list that is hilarious, but it might take you a second or two to get it. At least it took me a few seconds and once I got it I couldn’t stop laughing.
If this was the Barbara Walters we knew on The View, then maybe she wouldn’t be retiring from it.
After weeks of speculation that Jenny McCarthy would be joining The View, Barbara Walters confirmed the news this morning. I thought The View was geared towards women, I don’t know many/if any of my sisters who actually like her. If there is one woman who doesn’t need a daily soap box, it is the Playboy Playmate.
I never watch The View and this definitely sealed the deal for me to never ever tune in. I wonder how many loyal viewers will be tuning out in September when she officially joins the show.
BTW if her joining the show is making you look for alternate viewing, why not watch the Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family at 10a, you can actually learn something worthwhile from it.
Even though The View denied in the past that Elisabeth Hasselbeck would be leaving the daytime talk show, turns out they might not have been telling us the whole truth. The conservative member of the hosts and the most hated one has taken a job at Fox News. According to TVNewser she will be hosting Fox & Friends. She will be replacing Gretchen Carlson whose replacing Megan Kelly, no word who will be replacing Hasselbeck though. So far the names being thrown around to join the show are Jenny McCarthy and Brooke Shields, and if they are the ones that get the job expect viewers to tune out from The View.
Personally I think they made a mistake because even though she was hated, she made the show more interesting. Now they are going to be like all the other talk shows with multiple hosts. But I could be wrong because I don’t watch, so maybe they will do better without her.
Barbara Walters announced tonight that she is retiring next summer. She told ABC News, “I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on ‘The View’ and with ABC News. I created ‘The View’ and am delighted it will last beyond my leaving it.†Then when she talked about what she will be doing after she says goodbye to television, “I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain,†Then she added, “I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women — and OK, some men too — who will be taking my place.â€
But before she says her goodbye, we will still be able to see her anchor and report for ABC News, appear on The View and anchor specials throughout the year including a 20 Years of 10 Most Fascinating People in December, an Oscars special, and a May career retrospective.
With all of that coming up, I am not sure if I will miss her yet. But what I do know, is what an amazing career the 83 year old has had. One any newsperson would dream to have.
UPDATE: Here is Barbara Walters talking about her retirement on The View:
Just a day after Joy Behar announced she was leaving The View, comes word from Us Weekly that Eliasbeth Hasselbeck is also out of the daytime talk show after being on it for 9 years. Personally I think it is a mistake because even though everyone hated her, she made the show more exciting. You never knew who she was going to fight with and that is good for ratings.
I don’t know who the show is going to get to replace these two ladies and most likely Barbara Walters, and I am not sure it will survive the changes for long. I don’t get why if you have a good thing, you go around and change it. It’s rarely is for the better.
