So You Think You Can Dance’s Cat Deeley did an interview with Radio Times and according to IOL when she was talking about the other hosts in America she kind of dissed them.
“It’s a lot easier to get Americans to scream and shout and dance and clap. In Britain, it’s almost as if we’re ashamed of having ambition and drive.â€
The presenter, who grew up in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, said: “When I watch shows in America, I feel that some of the hosts are a little ’Stepford’ – in the nicest possible way.
“It feels as if they’re more worried if the light is in the right place and they’re standing right than they are about communicating with an audience.
“The fundamental part of my job is to communicate with an audience in a very real way. I think I’m maybe a bit ’realer’ than typical American hosts.â€
Deeley said of working in the US: “As much as you hear that you have to be size zero, you have to be Botoxed and have your lips and boobs done, no-one has ever said to me ’Fix your nose’ or ’Get big boobs’.
“I’m comfortable in my own skin and I think that helps enormously.â€
Deeley said of her life in LA: “I can host a show, then just hours later be riding my horse, and no one bothers me because Tom Cruise and Will Smith live down the road and are much more interesting.
“When I land in LA, it feels like LA, but when I land in London, and you see the Thames and St Paul’s on the plane’s final approach, it feels like home.â€
I have to admit after reading what she said, I kind of lost some respect for her. While I agree some of the hosts seem a little Stepford as she put it, I am wondering if she said what she said because she is bitter that the Emmys have yet to nominate for best Reality Show host?
Shane Sparks who is/was a choreographer on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance and a Judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew was arrested on 9 counts of alleged child molestation according to TMZ. The charges go back to 1994 and depending if you read his IMDB or the court papers will determine whther he was either 20 or 25 at the time of the alleged crime. According to court papers acquired by TMZ, “The lewd acts include oral copulation and other acts “with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires of the defendant, who was at least 10 years older than [the victim].”” The victim was under 14 at the time of the alleged crime according to court papers, but no age was specified. So gross if it is true.
Sparks is currently be held on $590,000 bail.
No word if he will continue on America’s Best Dance Crew that will be back in January or on So You Think You Can Dance that had its season finale on Wednesday.
Sparks is the second choreographer from SYTYCD to be arrested in the last year, Alex Da Silva was arrested for alleged rape. Who knew Fox really needed to do background checks on their choreographers?

Before Nigel Lythgoe was judging dancers on So You Think You Can Dance, he was a dancer himself with Young Generation. What can you say about the 20 year old’s dancing in that 1969 performance, but wow.
BTW here is a bonus clip of him dancing and singing with Young Generation, but not sure how much of a bonus it is…
For the first time in Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance’s history they will air an episode where we get to Meet the Top 20. “This special episode will showcase each of the dancers in their own style and genre and will feature group numbers choreographed by some of America ’s favorite choreographers. Viewers will get a chance to learn more about the dancers, and then at the end of the show, the judges – Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Adam Shankman – will pair the Top 20 with their partners for the first performance show airing the following evening.” The idea is so simple, I wonder why they didn’t think of it before. It will be nice to get to know the dancers doing what they do best before they are paired up doing styles that are new to them.
BTW we also get to know them a little better before we get to vote for them because of the World Series (Go Yankees!!!) the judges will be voting off the first two couples. We do not get to vote until the third week, and I have to admit I don’t like that idea because our favorites after tonight’s 8p special might be voted off before we ever get a chance to do it ourselves.
UPDATE: Billy Bell has dropped out of the competition because of an undisclosed illness. “We are disappointed that Billy cannot continue dancing in the competition on the advice of his doctor and wish him a speedy recovery,†said executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe. “However, we are fortunate that Brandon Dumlao has agreed to return.â€
Mia Michaels did a Paula Abdul and announced she is leaving SYTYCD via Twitter.
I AM OFFICIALLY AN ADORING FAN OF SYTYCD….THANK U FOR 5 WONDERFUL YRS
TO CREATE MOMENTS AND MOVEMENT FOR THE WORLD TO SHARE WITH ME WAS A GIFT…..
THANKS SYTYCD AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHATS AHEAD FOR ME…LOOKOUT WORLD!!!!!
I wonder if like Paula, her departure is over contract negotiations gone bad. Was she mad that Adam Shankman got the third judging slot over her? Did she think she needed more money because she got one Emmy and several noms? Did she want to do a dance a week? I doubt she will talk, but now that Nigel Lythgoe confirmed the news to Watch with Kristin I am sure he will at some point explain why she left the show. Although he says she is welcome back anytime she wants.
I personally don’t mind her being off the show. I hated when she was on the judging table because she said weird sh!t that didn’t make any sense or she was just bitchy. Yes, she did some great dances, but so have a lot of the choreographers. Change is good and now that we are on to season 6 it is much needed.
