The tour is taking it’s toll on Kylie Minogue
November 13th, 2006 under Kylie Minogue, Sick Bay. [ Comments: none ]

KYLIE MINOGUE was forced to pull out of a gig with U2 yesterday with exhaustion. The Aussie star is worn out after giving her all on the opening dates of her rescheduled Showgirl Homecoming Tour. She had promised to sing with BONO to thank him for joining her on stage for a duet at her gig on Sunday night. But the Pop Princess, recovering from breast cancer, wasn’t up to performing in Sydney at the Dublin super-group’s gig. A source said: “Kylie called Bono to explain that she had worn herself out. She is really feeling the physical effects of her return to the stage. “He told her to spend Monday resting, get her energy levels fully restored and relax. “It wasn’t a problem at all. Everyone realises Kylie is putting herself through the mill for her tour.” Bono did perform a tribute to Kylie, singing a verse of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head — complete with an embarrassing jig to go with it. I think Kylie is incredibly brave, throwing herself into her physically demanding tour dates. It is barely 18 months since she was diagnosed and just weeks since doctors told her she was winning her cancer battle. But taking on two-and-a-half-hour performances three times a week is a big ask — even if it was a singer at the peak of physical fitness. Kylie was snapped yesterday going out for a walk in Sydney in a little brown dress. She was pale but still had a smile for photographers — as she has done throughout her illness. You can only admire Kylie for honouring her tour dates with her loyal home-country fans. I just hope the pressure and physical stress she endures on the remaining dates don’t set back her recovery. Megastar Bono summed up the feelings so many people have for the former Neighbours star when I met him earlier this year. He told me: “I would lay rose petals on the ground she walks on.”

I hope she has the strenght to get through the tour without any complications. You go girl!

Richard Gere was rushed to the hospital in Croatia this week after breaking a rib, but he has refused to allow the injury to halt filming for Spring Break In Bosnia. The Pretty Woman star is in the Balkans shooting the new movie in which he plays a reporter hunting notorious war crimes fugitive Radovan Karadzic. The 57-year-old has vowed to return to the set within the next two days, despite doctors ordering him to rest. An source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Richard injured himself pretty badly and must have been in a lot of pain – but he didn’t make a fuss. "He wanted to resume filming almost immediately."

Farrah Fawcett update from Ryan O’Neal
November 10th, 2006 under Sick Bay. [ Comments: none ]

It was just last month that former "Charlie’s Angel" star FARRAH FAWCETT revealed that she would be undergoing treatment for cancer and, according to her ex, RYAN O’NEAL — who has been by her side through the ordeal — she is doing well. "She’s halfway through this treatment," Ryan told ET’s KEVIN FRAZIER, who sat down with the actor on the set of "Bones." "So it’s early. The doctors say she looks strong. They’re surprised that she’s so fit. And I don’t want to go out on a limb and say everything will work out. I pray though, and as a priest, of course, it comes naturally." The Academy Award-nominated actor is referring to the priest character he is playing on the FOX series. Of course, Ryan isn’t portraying an ordinary priest, but one with a deep-seated secret. "I just had this day of emotion, because it turns out that the priest had a child," Ryan reveals. "The child grew up and is part of this story. And the priest has to admit to [his child] who he is. And she is shocked, you know? She’s shocked, and angry. And that’s like life — mine." Ryan also jokes that he is having an emotional day because Farrah borrowed his car to go to her radiation treatment. "She’s driving," he explains. "She has responsibilities for this illness that she takes care of every day. She has radiation [treatment]. And it’s pretty debilitating, but you wouldn’t know it by talking to and looking at her. She won’t let it. She won’t let it get her down. She’s just very triumphant, proud and brave. I love her for it, for how she’s handling it. I do." In addition to Ryan and her family and friends, Farrah has received a great deal of support from fans around the world. "She was stunned by the reaction, the positive feedback, the feelings that have manifested themselves," Ryan says. "She had no idea that anyone still remembered her like that. She weeps. She sees this wonderful correspondence — people with their own stories, people with faith and hope for her — and that gives her her own personal strength, I’m sure."

It is amazing how they found each other again and how he is helping her through this.

Gary Numan diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome
November 6th, 2006 under Sick Bay. [ Comments: none ]

Gary Numan has admitted that he may have a mild form of Asperger Syndrome. The electro star claims that he may have had the condition since he was young, but never realised because little was known about it. Asperger Syndrome has only been recognised by professionals for a few years and those diagnosed with the disorder are often overly sensitive to sounds, tastes, smells, and sights. A person with AS may prefer soft clothing, certain foods, and be bothered by sounds or lights no one else seems to hear or see. These neurological differences may cause odd or unusual behaviour. Before diagnosis, those with the condition are sometimes thought of as eccentric, absent-minded, socially inept or awkward physically. Numan told the Metro newspaper: "I’ve read a lot about it and I fulfil some of the diagnostic criteria but not others. I probably only have a mild form. It means you’re unable to interact socially in a way that is generally acceptable. For example, if people came over for dinner and I saw a magazine I hadn’t read, I’d pick it up, sit in the corner and read it – which I now know is wrong. You also don’t readily understand facial expressions. You don’t communicate in the same way." Numan’s claim follows that of Vines singer Craig Nicholls, who has also been diagnosed with AS. It was initially thought the band would never return to full-time touring again, following his diagnosis.

I only heard of Asperger Syndrome because one of the lawyers on Boston Legal has it. The things we can learn from TV.

Marianne Faithful cancer free!
November 6th, 2006 under Sick Bay. [ Comments: none ]

Marianne Faithfull has made a full recovery from breast cancer and plans to resume a postponed world tour, her spokesman said Monday. Faithfull, a 1960s icon who once dated Mick Jagger, canceled her tour dates in September after being diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. Spokesman Rob Partridge said Faithfull, 59, had undergone surgery and was making "a rapid return to full health." "Marianne Faithfull has made such a successful recovery from breast cancer that doctors have given the go-ahead for her to resume touring commitments in spring next year," he said. He said the singer would begin her tour of Europe and North America in Budapest, Hungary, in March. In a statement, Faithfull said her illness "has been an extraordinary experience and, in many ways, extremely positive." "I didn’t realize how many true friends I had. I feel so lucky and loved and thank everybody for all their good thoughts," she said.
