The lead singer of the hugely popular children’s group The Wiggles announced Thursday he would stop performing because of illness. In a video-recorded statement, Greg Page said he had been suffering a condition called orthostatic intolerance that had left him debilitated. "It means that I’ll no longer be able to sing and dance as I want to and as a result I’ve decided to stop performing with The Wiggles," said Page, 34, who is known for his bright yellow T-shirt. The Wiggles were Australia’s top-earning entertainers last year, ahead of No. 2 AC/DC and No. 3 Nicole Kidman. The four men in brightly colored T-shirts, accompanied by a cast of characters including Dorothy the Dinosaur and Wags the Dog, grossed $39 million last year. Page helped found The Wiggles in 1991 after he and two other members met while studying early childhood education at Sydney’s Macquarie University.

Celine Dion has canceled the next five performances of her Las Vegas show, as well as an appearance at the Billboard Music Awards next week, because of a highly contagious respiratory infection, show producers said Wednesday. The 38-year-old Grammy award-winning singer is being treated for Mycoplasma bronchitis, a contagious bacterial infection, and has been ordered to rest during her recovery, producers said. Performances of A New Day at Caesars Palace, a revue created by former Cirque du Soleil artistic director Franco Dragone, were canceled from Wednesday through Sunday, after which Dion was scheduled to take a holiday break from the five-show-a-week regimen. The show will not resume until Dec. 28. Dion also backed out of a scheduled appearance at the Billboard Music Awards on Monday in Las Vegas. Kris Lingle, A New Day spokeswoman, said ticket-holders would receive refunds or could book other show dates. Dion last canceled performances in April, days ahead of her 500th show at the Las Vegas Strip hotel-casino. The singer began a three-year, $100 million contract at Caesars in March 2003, then extended it through next year.

Not judging her, but isn’t it ironic she gets sick right before her holiday vacation?

British R&B star Jamelia was recovering in hospital today after having an operation on a condition that caused her to collapse during filming for a television show, her manager said. The 25-year-old singer, famous for hits including Superstar and Something About You, "doubled up in pain" while on set for a Spanish music programme in Madrid on Thursday. She rushed back to the UK to see doctors who diagnosed an "umbilical hernia", a hereditary condition that causes pain around the stomach area. Last night, at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London, she underwent micro surgery, her manager Jonathan Shalit said. He added that she hoped to recover in time to perform with Meat Loaf at the Royal Variety Performance on December 4. He said: "She was in Spain on Thursday night performing on one of the biggest Spanish TV music shows when she suddenly doubled up in pain. "She described it as like ‘a bus had hit her stomach’. She saw a doctor on the set but decided to fly home where she went to St Mary’s Hospital and was examined. "They said she had an umbilical hernia, a hereditary condition that is also related to the after effect of having children. Jamelia has two young girls, one of whom is the daughter of her boyfriend, Millwall footballer Darren Byfield. Mr Shalit said Byfield was planning to see Jamelia following his team’s match at Nottingham Forest this afternoon.

Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley has dispelled rumours he is seriously ill as he walked out of a London hospital. The 48-year-old dancer and choreographer left The London Clinic on Saturday afternoon where he was being treated for a mystery illness. His 32-year-old wife Niamh O’Brien was at his side as he promised fans he is feeling much better and looking forward to being back on the road. He said: "I am on the mend." On Thursday the US-born Riverdance star cancelled all 20 dates of his European Celtic Tiger tour, due to start on Friday. His publicist later revealed he had been in hospital for two weeks. Media speculation suggested Flatley was battling a viral infection, with one newspaper quoting a source who claimed it was "the fight of his life". In April, Flatley revealed he had been treated for facial skin cancer in 2003, but said he had completely recovered. His latest illness is understood to be unrelated.

Dance star and choreographer Michael Flatley is in hospital suffering from a "serious illness", his official website said. His show "Celtic Tiger" has cancelled all of its European concert dates, a statement on his website read. "Celtic Tiger Touring Inc. has cancelled all European dates for Celtic Tiger starring Michael Flatley due to serious illness. Michael Flatley remains in hospital and unavailable for comment," the statement said. The Chicago-born Flatley was the force behind the hit show "Lord of the Dance", which mixed Irish step-dancing with elements of tap, ballet and flamenco to a rock-influenced score. According to Britain’s domestic Press Association (PA), Flatley first attended the hospital in London where he is at now two weeks ago. His wife Niamh O’Brien, a fellow member of his "Celtic Tiger" troupe, is with him there, PA said, citing a source close to Flatley.
