Grey’s Anatomy returns with new episodes next week. Today, ABC released a trailer for the first episodes of season 23.
Here is what you can expect from the season premiere: “After a collision at Sea-Tac sends a surge of critically injured patients to Grey Sloan, the unveiling of its controversial new VIP floor is thrown into chaos as doctors race to save lives amid impossible choices.”
James Wolk joins the show! And for some reason, Ellen Pompeo is still there. How and why?
Grey’s Anatomy is getting a third spinoff in 2027, and this one will take place in Texas.
According to Deadline, the medical drama will be “an edgy drama about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”
The untitled show’s pilot will be written by Shonda Rhimes, who created the series with Grey’s’ EPs’ Betsy Beers and Meg Marinis.
This is in the early stages, so it is unclear when it will air. However, there is talk of it sharing the same timeslot as Grey’s who had its episode order cut for next season.
Also, as of now, no one from the Mothership is expected to be a regular on the new show. But there are rumblings that Debbie Allen’s character might be attached to it.
Will you watch, or are you like me, and hoping that ABC will finally pull the plug on the Grey’s franchise?
ABC announced today that it picked up Grey’s Anatomy for a 23rd season, even though it has been on life support for many, many seasons. You pick whose death was the final nail in the coffin for you, and you stopped watching. I stopped watching so long ago that I honestly don’t remember whose death got me to stop watching. But I don’t miss it.
While the show’s ratings are down dramatically, it still does very well on streaming. So more episodes means more money! Well, for the studio at least. Production sees less money, so there will probably be more cast cuts than just Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, who we found out last week will be leaving the medical drama at the end of the season.
Do you wish they would pull the plug on it, or are you happy it gets another year without flatlining?
Grey’s Anatomy has been on for 22 seasons, so it is not a cheap show to produce. So one of the ways they are saving money is by cutting cast members from the show.
Today, we found out that two fan favorites will not be back next season, if there is another one. They are Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, because Owen and Teddy’s story has come to a natural end, according to the series creator Shonda Rhimes.
“Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen — two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves,” said Rhimes in a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter. “Kevin and Kim bring extraordinary talent, nuance and heart to their roles as Owen and Teddy. Their contributions leave an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them both and to see them shine.”
McKidd, who has directed 48 episodes, will direct his and Raver’s swan song, aka the season finale.
The actor joined the medical drama in 2008, and she was added a season later. Are you going to miss them, or do you think it is time for them to move on? I am sad to see them go because they are such a big part of the show. But as long as Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, Jr. are still there, it is OK. But the second one of them leaves, it is time for Grey’s to flatline.
Shonda Rhimes has killed off a lot of characters on Grey’s Anatomy, including McSteamy from a plane crash.
However, none of those actors had passed away in real life until now, sadly. On February 19th, Eric Dane lost his battle with ALS.
So, yesterday, the medical soap memorialized him with a video that will leave you crying. It was a beautiful goodbye to someone who made a difference by showing us strength as he fought an ugly disease, and with his last words.
