The Razzie Noms are announced!
February 19th, 2007 under Razzies movies?. [ Comments: none ]

Any honest Academy member will admit that Oscar voters are dealing with slim pickings for 2006. But at the other end of the quality scale, voters for this year’s 27th Annual RAZZIE® Awards had literally dozens of deserving contenders to choose from. And choose they have…and RAZZ the nominees they will, in ceremonies to be held at 7:30pm/PST on Oscar eve, Saturday, February 24 at Hollywood’s Ivar Theatre. Heading the dis-honor roll of Worst Achievements in Film this year are a lascivious murder mystery that turned out to be a laugh riot, and a comedy nearly as devoid of laughs as SCHINDLER’S LIST: Sharon Stone as a "femme fatale" The L.A. Times called "footloose and panty-free" in BASIC INSTINCT 2 and Shawn and Marlon Wayans in their brother Keenan Ivory Wayans’ blatant knock-off of a 1954 Bugs Bunny cartoon, LITTLE MAN. Each racked up 7 shots at the spray-painted gold statuettes no one in Hollywood really wants to "win." Joining these films in the final circle as Worst Picture nominees are M. Night Shyamalan’s brain-dead bedtime story (and box office dud) LADY IN THE WATER, Oscar winner Nicolas Cage donning an unconvincing bear suit in the laugh-out-loud funny remake of the Australian thriller WICKER MAN, and a film helmed by the man many Internet users consider the worst director alive today, Uwe Boll’s BLOODRAYNE. The Wayans brothers and Cage will be competing for Worst Actor of 2006 against last year’s "winner" Rob Schneider in BENCHWARMERS, former TV funnyman Tim Allen, with a trio of terrible titles (SANTA CLAUSE 3, SHAGGY DOG and ZOOM) and Larry the Cable Guy (Dan Whitney) as Larry the Cable Guy in LARRY THE CABLE GUY: HEALTH INSPECTOR. Vying with Stone for Worst Actress will be repeat offender Jessica Simpson (nominated this year for EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH), teen-idol (and terrible role model) Lindsay Lohan in JUST MY LUCK, newcomer Kristanna Loken in BLOODRAYNE and spelling-challenged risible siblings Hilary and Haylie Duff in MATERIALS GIRLS. Other well-known names and former Oscar darlings getting dinged with Golden Raspberry nods for 2006 include Ben Kingsley, Martin Short and Danny DeVito competing as Worst Supporting Actor, and RAZZIE® regulars Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra competing with LOST star Michelle Rodriguez, Kristin Chenoweth and Kate Bosworth (as an ultra-lame Lois Lane in SUPERMAN RETURNS) for Worst Supporting Actress. This year’s newest RAZZIE® category salutes the dearth of quality G and PG rated movie fare in 2006: Nominated as Worst Excuse for Family Entertainment are DECK THE HALLS, GARFIELD 2, RV, SANTA CLAUSE 3 and SHAGGY DOG. Links to the complete list of nominees are on the left column of this page. The RAZZIES® were created in 1980 by lifelong cinemaniac and cynic John Wilson, author of both THE OFFICIAL RAZZIE® MOVIE GUIDE and EVERYTHING I KNOW I LEARNED AT THE MOVIES. Nominees were determined by mailing ballots to 737 Golden Raspberry Foundation members throughout 42 US states and more than a dozen foreign countries. Should they choose to accept their RAZZIES® "winners" receive a gold-spray-painted, golf-ball-sized raspberry atop a mangled super 8 film reel, with an estimated street value of $4.97. Blonde Ambition is so getting a Razzie nom next year?
December 27th, 2006 under Nick Lachey/Jessica/Ashlee Simpson, Razzies movies?. [ Comments: none ]

Country icon Willie Nelson will reunite with Jessica Simpson in "Blonde Ambition," a loose remake of the 1988 film "Working Girl." The story follows a young woman (Simpson) who becomes the unwitting pawn of two ruthless business executives in their bid to usurp and replace the head of an international conglomerate. Nelson is playing Simpson’s grandfather. They previously worked together on her feature debut, "The Dukes of Hazzard." Also cast is comedian Larry Miller, who will play the conglomerate’s CEO. He previously starred for the film’s director, Scott Marshall, in "Keeping Up with the Steins." Previously cast in the film were Luke Wilson, Rachael Leigh Cook, Andy Dick and Penelope Ann Miller. The movie is shooting in New York and Shreveport, La. Sony Entertainment will release the film theatrically.

Hollywood Reporter

Looks like Sony is no longer considering to release this movie straight-to-DVD? I wonder if after they test it, they will change their minds? No offense to Luke Wilson, but that has to be some of the worst casting in years. Seriously Andy Dick? Do they really want this movie to fail?

Will Nicole Kidman make an Invasion at next year’s Razzies?
December 18th, 2006 under Keith & Nicole Urban, Razzies movies?. [ Comments: none ]

Nicole Kidman’s new movie is being re-shot after being badly received by test audiences, it has been claimed. ‘The Invasion’, a sci-fi movie in which Nicole play a psychiatrist investigating a mysterious epidemic, is having many of its scenes re-filmed after being widely panned. An on-set source told Hollywood website The Buzz: "Half the movie is being re-shot after the rough cut didn’t test well." A representative for Warner Bros studios confirmed some scenes are being filmed again but denied it was because the movie has been badly received. The spokesperson said: "They are doing mostly second-unit re-shoots now, and there has been no testing." Critics fear ‘The Invasion’ – which began as a remake of the 1956 film ‘The Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ but is now considered an original script – will be another flop for Oscar winner Nicole, whose recent films ‘Fur’ and ‘Bewitched’ failed to wow audiences. The film, which also stars new James Bond actor Daniel Craig, is due for release in 2007.

Monsters & Critics

The first half of 2006 was going so well for Nicole Kidman, but the second part has been really crappy for her. So sad.

Bob Dylan tries to shut down Factory Girl?
December 14th, 2006 under Razzies movies?. [ Comments: none ]

FOLK legend Bob Dylan is trying to halt the release of a new film, which he fears falsely implies he was responsible for the suicide of Andy Warhol muse Edie Sedgwick. The singer’s lawyers have written to the Factory Girl’s producers and scriptwriter demanding that all distribution and screenings are stopped until they have seen it. Sedgwick, played by Sienna Miller, 24, was Warhol’s brightest protege until she died of an overdose of barbiturates in 1971. She became acquainted with Dylan while living at Manhattan’s famous Chelsea Hotel. The musician’s lawyer wrote that the film’s original screenplay depicted an alleged relationship between the two, using Dylan’s name and suggested he dumped Sedgwick, leading to her "tragic decline into heroin addiction and eventual suicide". In the film itself, the character is called Billy Quinn and is said to be a composite of Dylan, Doors star Jim Morrison and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. But lawyer Orin Snyder says critics who have seen screenings say it is unmistakably Dylan, according to the New York Post. He wants the film to be shelved until legal teams have seen it to determine if they think Dylan, who has "deep concerns," has been defamed. "You appear to be labouring under the misunderstanding that merely changing the name of a character or making him a purported fictional composite will immunise you from suit," Mr Snyder wrote. "That is not so. Even though Mr Dylan’s name is not used, the portrayal remains both defamatory and a violation of Mr Dylan’s right of publicity." He added: "Until we are given an opportunity to view the film, we hereby demand that all distribution and screenings . . . immediately be ceased." The Weinstein Company, which is releasing the film in the US on December 29, confirmed the letter’s existence but had no comment.

This movie just sounds bad. If I were the Weinstein Company, I would just release this movie straight-to-DVD and cut my losses.

A Razzie Nightmare: Sylvester Stallone to give up acting?
October 31st, 2006 under Razzies movies?. [ Comments: 1 ]

Sylvester Stallone will retire from acting after shooting his new Rambo movie. The action hero, who will begin working on Rambo 4: In The Serpent’s Eye early next year, has revealed he will continue to work in Hollywood – but only as a director. Sylvester explained: "After I make this movie, I see my future as a director. I’ve been displeased with my last few films, as well as some in the past." Rambo 4: In The Serpent’s Eye will see Vietnam veteran John Rambo rescuing missing missionaries in Thailand. The 60-year-old actor enjoyed massive box office success in the 70s and 80s with the Rocky and Rambo movies but has often failed to impress critics. Sylvester, affectionately known as Sly, penned script for the first Rocky movie and wrote and directed Rocky II, Rocky III and Rocky IV. However, he has won more Golden Raspberry Awards – given for the worst film performances of the year – than any other actor in history. Rocky Balboa – the sixth film in the series – is scheduled to be released in December.

Not that I would complain if he did…but you know he will be back.
