So I was going through my RSS reader and “Eduardo” the Freek posted this video from All That Jazz. Bye Bye Life is one of my favorite musical numbers of all time. There is just something about it that wows me even to this day. I haven’t seen All That Jazz in years and and after watching the clip I can’t help but just click watch again over and over!
If you haven’t seen All That Jazz, rent it today. And after you see it, you will understand why I have been saying that I wish this was the Bob Fosse production that they brought to the big screen again and not Chicago.
So press play and have “Bye Bye Life, Bye Bye Happiness, Hello loneliness, I think he’s going to die, Bye Bye your life good-bye” stuck in your head for days!
So when they announced the stars for Dancing with the Stars, one of the names that stood out to me was Paulina Porizkova. Not because of who is, but who she is married to…Ric Ocasek of The Cars. Well as much as I like The Cars, I have to admit that Ric is not the most attractive singer in Rock’s history and I am going back 20 years ago to say that. So I wondered what is he going to look like today when they show him supporting his wife on DWTS4? That is something I have been mentally preparing myself for since the announcement.
Ric met Paulina on the Drive video, so you would think I would post that one. Well there are two reasons why I didn’t: 1st Ric did not sing it, 2nd The singer Benjamin Orr is no longer with us. So which video did I choose? Well my favorite video (not song) by The Cars is You Might Think. You might think that is an easy video to find to post, but the one I am posting is the only one I could find. Anyways hope you enjoy this video and hope that Ric looks somewhat like that when we see him tomorrow on DWTS!!!
So the other night I was talking to my friend, Dave, about the meaning behind the song Turning Japanese by The Vapors. You see my other friend, Jerry, has been telling me for years that the song is about when a man climaxes he makes a face that well makes him look Japanese, thus Turning Japanese. Well I thought it seemed logical, I mean c’mon how fun is that? Well back to Dave, he said that he read The Vapor’s lead singer Dave Fenton denies that is what the song is about. So I called Jerry who remains adamant that the song is about, masturbation. Well today I found the answer on a The Vapors fan page and I don’t have the heart to tell Jerry he was wrong. So in order not to upset Jerry, we will keep this between us. What do you think after reading the below quote from Dave Fenton and listening to the song?
Over in the States, “Turning Japanese” was deciphered as a paen to masturbation – more specifically the Oriantal – looking facial distortions one pulls in the moment of climax (so I’m reliably informed). Fenton is characteristically reticent on such matters. “It means whatever you want it to mean,” he says, before admitting: “I wrote it as a love song. But when I went to America everyone said to me, “Is it about wanking?” In interviews, I’d say alternatively, “Yes it is”, and “No, it’s not”. It could be about a lot of things. I just woke up with that phrase in my head. It’s just an image which captures what that song was all about. But, no it wasn’t intended to be about wanking at the time. What surprised me was that the Americans thought it was an English phrase!”
So I was watching one of my favorite shows House, the one with Dave Matthews, and Hugh Laurie plays the piano with him. The first song they play together is I Don’t Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats. I don’t like Bob Geldof, but I do like the song. So I figured I would go online and see if I could find the music video and share it will y’all! And of course they did!!! They also had a live version of the song with Jon Bon Jovi from 1996, and as hot I as I think Jon is, I figured I had to go with the original version on this one! That and to say, wow Bob Geldof used to be hot! And doesn’t Peaches Geldof look just him? Now back to the song, I know it is Wednesday, but pretend it is Monday and you don’t like them! Tell me why?
Now that we got the video out of the way…how amazing was House last night. He is such a sh!t and that is why I love him! Am I the only who totally finds Hugh Laurie just so darn sexy!!! I would so do him in a heartbeat! I mean I had little bursts of tears throughout the whole episode and the writers totally tricked us. So not nice, but it did lead to some great hugging scenes between House and Cuddy, and House and Chase! God I love this show it gets better and better each week! And how great was Dave Matthews as a savant?
So I went online for today’s Randomness! to look for John Cougar Mellencamp’s Hurts So Good, but for some reason when I did the search it came up with Good Charlotte’s I Just Wanna Live. Well the first time I heard I Just Wanna Live was on General Hospital, so I said let me try YouTube and see if that clip from GH with I Just Wanna Live is on there. Well guess what, it was! So I hope you enjoy General Hospital using Good Charlotte’s I Just Wanna Live as much I do!!!
