Pearl Jam played Paris Lollapoolaza on the 17th, and the elements affected Eddie Vedder in a negative way, as you can hear in the performance above.
“Due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor site outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires) our singer Ed Vedder’s throat was left damaged. He has seen doctors and had treatment but as of yet, his vocal cords have not recovered,” the band wrote in a statement when they cancelled yesterday’s show in Vienna.
Today, they announced they are cancelling tomorrow’s gig in Prague. “We were hopeful that Ed would make a recovery in time to perform tomorrow. He has seen a doctor in Prague and is continuing the treatments for his vocal cords, but unfortunately, there is still no voice available.”
Hopefully, Vedder gets his voice back soon because I know how much the fans (my best NY friend) love to hear him sing live.
Pearl Jam’s next shows are in Amsterdam on the 24th and 25th. As we know, they have a smoke issue too.
Just when I thought I have seen everything. It turns out I haven’t. I never expected to see Leslie Jordan and Eddie Vedder dancing to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers’ Island in the Stream, but here they are doing just that.
How did it come about? They are friends. “Name that tune with my sweet friend @eddievedder,” Jordan wrote. “I absolutely love everything about this man and his family. A rocker dancing to @dollyparton — it doesn’t get eddie vedder than this.” No, it doesn’t.
Now, I want to see them get down to Jeremy. Actually, I’d like to see the actor tour with Pearl Jam and dance on stage for them. Would you pay to see that?
Back in 1992, the concept of a school shooting like the ones that happened at Columbine, Sandy Hook, or Parkland was unimaginable. Thus, showing a teen with a gun was censored by network standards and practices. Which means we never saw the full music video for Pearl Jam’s Jeremy.
Nearly 30 years later, the band felt the need to release it and they explained why. “In addition to the equity protests taking place around the country, today [June 5th] also marks National Wear Orange Day. The increase in gun violence since the debut of ‘Jeremy’ is staggering. We have released the uncensored version of the video which was unavailable in 1992 with TV censorship laws.”
While I am all about moving forward, I wish we would go back to a time when a school shooting was something we thought would never happen.
Along with the video, the band updated the Choices t-shirt. They say, “Proceeds will go to the Vitalogy Foundation to support organizations working to prevent gun violence in the United States.”
Pearl Jam’s Jeremy is one of the most depressing songs of the ’90s and Footloose is one of the happiest ones of the ’80s, so what would happen if you combined the two? DJ Cummerbund found out when took the lyrics from the Alternative song and mashed it up with the music from the Pop tune and we got something really bizarre. I feel like I am at a Pearl Jam show, where everyone is passing the joint made from the really good stuff! When I say bizarre, I mean really, really good!

How many times have you gone to a concert and wish they would play your favorite song, but after the final encore you realize they are just not going to do it. How far would you go to have that band perform that tune?
Well in Spokane, Washington, on Saturday, one fan was willing to let Eddie Vedder shave off his really long dreadlocks if was able to headbang to Brian of J one last time. Well Pearl Jam obliged and off went one dreadlock at a time. And now that guy can tell his friends that he had his head shaved by Eddie Vedder as he rocked out to his favorite song live. Just like each dreadlock has a story, so does he about how he lost his long hair.
BTW if this music thing doesn’t work out for Vedder, he could so get a job as a barber. He seemed like a natural as he sawed off each dread.
Finally, didn’t he look so much better once all of those locks were on the stage!
