Mickey Rooney passed away today after a long illness according to TMZ. Rooney was the first big male child star and continued acting up until this decade. He was known for Sugar Babies, Babes in Arms, the Andy Hardy series, National Velvet, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Pete’s Dragon, The Black Stallion, Bill, Night at the Museum and The Muppets to name just a few of the many things he starred in throughout his legendary career. As well known as he was for his acting, the 5’2″ actor was also known for marrying 8 times like his co-star Elizabeth Taylor and yet they never married each other.
So today honor this little guy with a huge career and watch one of his many many many movies.

Harold Ramis passed away today at the age of 69 from complications related to auto-immune inflammatory vasculitis according to The Chicago Tribune. He started out on SCTV, but he will be remember most for writing, directing and/or starring in a lot of our favorite movies like Stripes, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Animal House, Groundhog Day, Analyze This, Back to School and National Lampoon’s Vacation to name just a few. So today remember him with a smile and watch one of his many movies again for the umpteenth time. I know I will be watching a few of them on VHS to make remembering him a little more special and timeless.

Sid Caesar passed away today at the age of 91 according to his friend, Larry King. While the younger generation might not know his name, Caesar is the grandfather of television. It was his variety shows Your Show of Shows and The Sid Caesar Show that not only launched the careers of Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner and Woody Allen, he changed television forever and made it what it is today. After he stopped doing his television shows, he did some movies like It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Airport 1975, Grease and History of the World Part I to name a few. Through his illustrious career he made us laugh a lot. So today take some time out of your day and discover the man that revolutionized comedy forever and keep his funny spirit alive.

The world’s most loved child star, Shirley Temple Black, passed away today at the age of 85 according to The NY Times. America’s Sweetheart was discovered at a dance studio when she was just 3 years old and made her first short movie in 1931. After a few small roles, she finally landed her first lead in 1933. In 1934, Stand UP and Cheer was released, just in time for her 5th birthday, and the world fell in love with her. Now over 75 years later we still love this little girl who was sweeter than the Good Ship Lollipop and Animal Crackers in our Soup.
In her later life, the mother of 3, retired from acting and became a US Ambassador from 1969-1992.
So today let’s honor this wonderful woman that we all love by watching one of her movies and drinking a Shirley Temple or two.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead today at the age of 46 according to WSJ. There are unconfirmed reports of what killed him, so until they are confirmed I will not report about them. Although I will add that he completed rehab last summer for heroin abuse after being sober for over 20 years. So if you are addict and you need help, please call someone right now and get it before it is too late.
The Oscar winner was known for his roles in Capote, Boogey Nights, The Big Lebowski, Patch Adams, Magnolia, Almost Famous, Punch Drunk Love, The Master, the Hunger Games franchise and so many more.
So today honor his amazing theatrical career and watch one of his many movies.
