Ellen Albertini Dow passed away yesterday at the age of 101 according to Deadline. While most actors start working before they are old enough to drink, she waited until she was in her 70’s to begin her career. Even though she started later in life, she still had a career that most actors dream of having.
Ellen did several guest starring roles on television, including three different characters on The Golden Girls before Adam Sandler cast her in The Wedding Singer. In 1994, she became known as the rapping grandmother, but roles in movies like 54 and Wedding Crashers proved she was so much more than that.
If you look at her IMDB page, you will see she barely stopped working from the moment she started. She worked up until she was almost 3 digits, and there aren’t that many professions that allow you to do that or more importantly make you want to work until you are almost 100.
So today, watch one of her many many roles and let them bring a smile to your face because that was her specialty. Let’s keep her vibrant spirit alive.
I said a hip hop, Hippie to the hippie, The hip, hip a hop, and you don’t stop, a rock it!
