Jessica Simpson had an uncomfortable moment singing "Nine to Five" as part of the tribute to Parton, finishing the song abruptly with the words "so nervous" and quickly exiting, to no applause. She was in tears when she and the other singers in the tribute came back out. Country singer Reba McEntire told the audience Parton changed Nashville. "Once upon a time, a woman in Nashville was told what song to sing, in what clothes," she said. "Because of Dolly we’ve been writing, producing and singing our own music for some time now." Parton, 60, a country singer who has performed for more than four decades, is a Grammy-winner who also has appeared in movies such as "Nine to Five,""The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "Steel Magnolias." And there is her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. CBS will broadcast the show Dec. 26 at 9 p.m. EST.

JESSICA Simpson could have been the face of Miu Miu instead of Lindsay Lohan, if it hadn’t been for her slavish devotion to her hairdresser, Ken Paves. Insiders say Simpson was on a short list of celebs Miu Miu had in mind for its next ad campaign being shot by famed fotogs Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. But when the snappers learned Simpson was on the list, they nixed her. "They felt snubbed by Jessica because they were set to do her Vanity Fair shoot several months ago," says an insider. "Being the professionals they are, they wanted to bring in their own hair and makeup team, but Jessica said if they didn’t use Ken, then she wasn’t sitting for the shoot." The shoot and cover story for Vanity Fair were canceled amid false rumors that editors spiked them because Simpson refused to dish on her failed marriage to Nick Lachey. Our source insists it was the hair issues that ruined the spread: "Most fashion photographers use their own people – and they certainly don’t use Ken Paves, who is considered tacky and amateurish for high-fashion shoots. He’s very ‘Texas pageant hair.’ " A rep for Simpson said, "She could not have done the campaign anyway because she has her own clothing and shoe line."

Jessica Simpson has quashed rumors she is to star in a remake of ‘Working Girl’. It had been reported that the ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ actress was going to play Tess McGill – an aspiring businesswoman, who was played by Melanie Griffith in the original – in a reworking of the popular 80s film. Jessica insists she has no plans to appear in the movie and is currently busy with other projects. She said: "I don’t know where those rumors came from. I’m making a film called ‘Blonde Ambition’ that I’m doing with Luke Wilson." Jessica believes the confusion may have arisen because her new film has a similar plot to ‘Working Girl’. She added: "It’s along the same lines as ‘Working Girl’. A small town girl moving to New York and turning into a great businesswoman."

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer have always insisted they’ve never been more than just friends. But after they were spotted on Saturday night together in Beverly Hills, they certainly have me scratching my head. "Jessica Simpson is at the bar at the Four Seasons [hotel] with John Mayer," a tipster emailed me at about 11 p.m. "She totally had her head on his chest, and now they are canoodling." Minutes later, the maybe-more-than-friends duo left with a large group. No word on where they ended the evening.

The ‘Dukes of Hazard’ actress, the ex-wife of Nick Lachey, has been scouring internet dating sites to find a man ever since she split from singer John Mayer. However, the blonde star was left red-faced after she unknowingly arranged a meeting with a ‘professional hooker’. A friend of Jessica’s told Australia’s New Weekly magazine: "Jessica logged onto the internet to find male company. "She found a picture of a guy in Los Angeles she thought was ideal. "They arranged to meet, but when she turned up, she found out the sad truth – he was only interested in a ‘professional transaction’. The guy turned out to be a male escort." Jessica – who recently announced on US TV that she was "sexually frustrated" – quickly realised her mistake and told her date in no certain terms to get lost. The source added: "Jessica was horrified and told him to go to hell. She wasn’t that desperate." The unfortunate incident has now made Jessica think twice about her choice of suitors. The friend said: "She never imagined male hookers would be trying to cash in on the service. It’s turned her off the web – and that was her main hobby."
